1. In ten sentences, discuss the development of arts, especially in its


themes and functions from pre-colonial to colonial Philippines.

(1) During the colonization of Spain, Philippine architecture was


dominated by the Spanish influences.
(2) As Spanish came to the Philippines, they brought a very important
form of art which is the Baroque art and architecture.
(3) Before the Spanish colonization in the Philippines, structures of art
and architectures were very much different and were mostly made
of wood.
(4) When Spanish brought their influence of art, and gave new set of
culture, Philippine arts have been evolved and developed.
(5) With their art form, the Baroque art and architecture, it altered the
society in the Philippines which brought importance to the
development of Philippine arts.
(6) Such as the churches and grand cathedrals that are built all over the
Philippines, they are forms of religious influences of the Spaniards.
(7) Philippine traditions before were more on divine elements, where
we sculpted the faces of those people who died.
(8) And then when Spaniards came, sculptures are now well defined
and detailed.
(9) Even our beliefs, like our belief of the golden Tara, it was changed
and replaced with the Spanish beliefs like the Virgin Mary.
(10) And most importantly, the elements and structures of
architectures symbolizes the Spanish influence, such as the arches,
curved lines, and distinct designs.

2. In ten sentences, compare (5 sentences) and contrast (5 sentences)


presentation of belief or faith in the Philippine arts from pre-colonial
to colonial Philippines.

Compare
(1) Pre-colonial and colonial Philippines both have different
beliefs and religions.
(2) Both periods shown worship and faith to their Gods and
Goddesses.
(3) They both presented their Gods by making sculptures of them.
(4) They both seek guidance and protection from their Gods.
(5) They both provide sanctuary for their sculptured Gods.
Contrast
(1) Sculptures from pre-colonial are way simpler than the
sculptures from colonial period, which are well-defined and
detailed.
(2) Before, Filipinos have religious beliefs such as anitos, and after
Spanish came, it was changed to saints.
(3) During the pre-colonial period, Filipinos tend to praise the
divine in an open field, but after Spanish came, they praise
inside the church.
(4) They also believed on the Golden Tarra before, and currently,
the Virgin Mary.
(5) Due to the Spanish influences that brought new set of culture
and tradition, beliefs from before were now replaced and has
been clearly presented than before through structures with the
help of Baroque art and architecture.
