Corresponding Angle Theorems

If l and l ' are lines cut by a transversal t in such a way that two corresponding angles are
congruent, then l is parallel to l '.

Given: Line l and line l ', transversal line t, corresponding angles 1 and 2
Prove: l ∥l '

Proof:
1. ∠ 1 ≅ ∠ 2 Given
2. ∠ 3 and ∠ 4 are alternate exterior Definition of alternate exterior angles
angles
3. m∠1+ m∠ 3=180; m∠2+ m∠ 4=180 Definition of Supplementary angles
4. m∠3=180−m∠ 1; Subtraction Property
m∠ 4=180−m∠ 2
5. m∠3=180−m∠ 1; Substitution Property
m∠ 4=180−m∠1
6. m∠ 3=m ∠4 Transitive Property
7. l ∥l ' Alternate exterior angle Theorem - If two
lines are cut by a transversal and the alternate
exterior angles are equal, then the two lines are
parallel.
Angle Sum Theorem: For every triangle, the sum of the measures of the interior angles of the
triangle is 180 °. (Hint: Let ABC be a triangle. Draw a line through C that is parallel to the line
through A and B. Then apply the converse to alternate interior angles.)

We draw a line parallel through C that is also parallel to the line through A and B. From them,
different angles will be drawn. Angle a corresponds to another angle and we also call it also as
angle a. Similarly, angle b corresponds to another angle we also called as angle b. By definition
of supplementary angle, a+ b+c=180 °. Hence, we can also conclude that the sum of interior
angles of a triangle is 180.

Part 2: Design a figure similar to the one below using a Sketchpad, screenshot your work
and provide your step-by-step process until you come up with the design. For repeated
step, just indicate the number of the steps repeated. Please be guided with the rubric given
above.
Steps in Making the Sierpinski gasket in Geometer's Sketchpad:
Step 1: Draw a segment using the Segment Straigthedge Tool.

Step 2: Rotate the segment to 60 degrees.

Step 3: Connect the remaining two dots to form an isosceles triangle.

Step 4: Construct midpoints for each of the segments in the triangle.

Step 5: Connect the midpoints.

Step 6: Construct a triangle interior and recolor the shaded area into white.
Step 7: Click “Transform” and choose “Iterate”

Step 8: Add new images to the figure by clicking the points in the triangle and click Iterate.

Step 9: Right click and choose “Increase Iteration”.

The resulting image is the Sierpinski Gasket.
