Elizabeth’s Religious Settlement

1. How did Elizabeth try to get her religious change through the House of Lords?

The Act of Supremacy and the Act of Uniformity, both in 1559, were the religious acts passed by
parliament. The Act of Supremacy made Elizabeth the Supreme Governor of the Church of England,
which meant that Catholics could still view the Pope as the head of the church. The Act of Uniformity
was more Protestant. It reintroduced the Book of Common Prayer and laid out what church services
should be like, also allowing communion of both kinds.
