Prototype testing

The prototype for the car customization app has been done. Now the most important part of the
design phase starts i.e., the testing phase. In this phase, we will test all assumptions that we have
made during the ideation phase. Before creating a customization app prototype, we believed
customers want all types of customizations under one platform, the majority of them will opt for
aesthetic customization and at an affordable price point. Also, for locating any service provider they
will take the help of our app. For our partner dealers and service providers, we assumed that they
will approve our car design and work on the design created through the app. Our team members
circulated the prototype among their friends and among chosen personas and wanted to see the
reaction of the users in a natural setting. We want our users to experience the customization
platform, play with the available features and create some unique car designs with a selected car
model. We want to make sure our users should try the features on their own and in that process, we
do not want to overexplain all the features available on the app. We have mainly considered two
metrics – completion and duration metric for testing our prototype. In the completion metric we
want to understand whether a user is able to complete a customization task on the app or not,
which features he/she find necessary or unnecessary, and finally what is the overall experience of
using the application. In duration metric, we want to know more about the time spent by a user on
each task in the design process. After showing users our prototype, we will ask questions and take
feedback from users. Similarly, we will showcase the layout and user interface of the customization
process to a dealer or service provider and seek their partnership and also ask about the feasibility
of carrying out customization on the created design. The input that we will receive from users and
service providers will help us to refine our user interface, add more customization features and build
an MVP after the prototype.

We circulated the link of the app prototype with a feedback form to our prospective users and asked
for feedback. We observed that users are a decent amount of time exploring various features of the
customization platform. The data of average screen time we got from our users is 22 minutes. The
majority of users are also applying graphics and vibrant colors to their car design. Many users were
also able to complete and finalize their designs. On the feedback form, users have suggested
including tutorial videos and mentioning of cost of various types of customizations. Users also
stressed the affordability of car customization and the availability of reliable and trusted service
providers. We also approached 2-3 car customization service providers in Delhi NCR over the phone
and asked their opinion about the app. Some dealers liked the idea of providing service on the app
and some were hesitant and question the feasibility of using an app.

After collecting feedback from users, team Maverick discussed various improvisation and features to
be added to the prototype. We decided to include tutorial videos for the easy understanding of
users. We will make the interface more engaging and interactive by adding more graphic designs and
features to the menu. We will mention estimated price quotes for every type of customization
option for the sake of user needs. We will search for a strategic partner or service provider who can
agree to our terms and provide excellent service at an affordable price.
