DOMINIC DE GUZMAN

THE PATRON OF ASTRONOMERS

We choose saint Dominic de Guzman as our saint for the reason of, we admire how he gave away his
money and sold his clothes furniture and even precious manuscript to feed the hungry and travel to
different countries like Denmark and France to preach.

Dominic was born in 1170 in caleruega halfway between osma and aranda de duero in old castile spain

Dominic was canonized in 1234 and died at the age of 51 in the sixth of august 1221 at bologna,emilia,
romagna, italy

Dominic was a spanish priest and founder of the dominican order of preachers like saint catherine of
siena O.P. and is also the patron saint of astronomers

Dominic spend the rest of his life organizing the order traveling to various places in europe such as italy
spain and france from there dominic preached and attracted new members and established a new
house

Dominic arrive in bologna on december 21 1218. A convent was established at the mascarella church by
the blessed reginald of orleans. Soon afterwards they had to move to the church of san nicolo of the
vineyard. Dominic settled in this church and had here the first two general chapter of the orders

" to have charity for one another to guard humility and to make a treasure of voluntary poverty."

" do not weep for i shall be more useful to you after my death i shall help you then more effectively than
during my life "

1947

• San Nicolas Academy was established on February 14, 1947

1950

• The first commencement exercises was held in March 1950 with 14 successful graduates.

1960

• In 1960 the Dominican Sisters took over the administration of the institution.

1967

• San Nicolas Academy was renamed Dominican School in honor of St. Dominic, founder of the
Order of Preachers.
1973

• March 1973 was the last commencement exercises under the Religious Missionaries of St.
Dominic.

1973

• New congregation of Daughters of St. Dominic took over the reign of the school under a
diocesan congregation with Bishop Jesus J. Sison.

1980

• 1980 marked a milestone in its history when Sr. Carmen Tiamzon, principal of DS envisioned that
the school could be of better service if it could offer tertiary education.

1985

• Government recognition was given to Computer Secretarial and Bachelor of Arts courses.

1997

• Government recognition was given to Bachelor of Elementary Education.

1999

• Government recognition was given to Bachelor of Secondary Education.

• Started as simple typing class, then grow slowly into college department that offers courses like
Computer Secretarial, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of
Secondary Education.

2005-2006

• DCT has been given accreditation by TESDA to hold Hotel and Restaurant Management, Practical
Nursing and Contact Center Training.

Dominican College of Tarlac believes in the ultimate goal of education, that is the total integral

The school logo, by itself, attests to the identity of the Dominican College of Tarlac – the character it
manifests in the socio-cultural and psycho-spiritual awareness of the people invariably connected
with it.

The logo emphasizes three virtues:

• FIDES – “Faith in God”

• PATRIA – “Love for country”

• SAPIENTIA – “Love for fellowmen”

The logo embodies this institution’s unwavering commitment to the holistic formation of the person
as well as the person’s manifestation of a true educated man in the Dominican way.
