Subject: EEUTTI-130 Section: CIV104
Grading Period: Schedule:
Instructor: Set:

Part I.
Instruction: Describe and briefly explain the functions of the
following Electrical Components. (2pts each)

1. Insulator - a material where electric current does not flow freely

2. Conductor - a material that allows the flow of charge in one or more
direction
3. Raceway - an enclosed channel that forms a physical pathway for
electrical wiring
4. DC Circuit - an electrical circuit that consists of any combination of
constant voltage sources, constant current sources, and resistors
5. AC Circuit - an electric current that periodically reverses its direction,
in contrast to direct current (DC) which only flows in a single direction
which cannot change sporadically
Part II.
Instruction: Write your final answer only. Round-off your final answer
in 2 decimal places. (5pts each)

1. What is the effective resistance of a toy car’s starter motor when 20A
flows through it as the car battery applies 12V to the motor? 0.60
2. What is the power of a 10V lightning bolt having a current of 2A? 20W
3. What power is supplied to the starter motor of a large truck that draws
250 A of current from a 24 V battery hookup? 6000 W
4. Find the Total Current(I) of the circuit diagram (Fig.1).

5. Find the Total Resistance(R) of the circuit diagram (Fig.2)
-625.00

Part III.
Instruction: Analyze each problem and circuit diagram. Round-off your
final answer in 2 decimal places if applicable. (10pts each)
For Items 1 and 2: About 20% of a home’s use of energy goes to
lighting, while the number for commercial establishments is closer to
40%. Fluorescent lights are about four times more efficient than
incandescent lights—this is true for both the long tubes and the
compact fluorescent lights (CFL). Thus, a 60-W incandescent bulb
can be replaced by a 15-W CFL, which has the same brightness and
color. The heat transfer from these CFLs is less, and they last up to
10 times longer. New white LED lights (which are clusters of small
LED bulbs) are even more efficient (twice that of CFLs) and last 5
times longer than CFLs. However, their cost is still high.
1. If the cost of electricity in your area is P10 per kWh, what is the
total cost (capital plus operation) of using a 60-W incandescent
bulb for 1000 hours (the lifetime of that bulb) if the bulb cost
P100? P700.00
2. If we replace this bulb with a compact fluorescent light that
provides the same light output, but at 1/4 the wattage, and which
costs P20 but lasts 10 times longer (10,000 hours), what will that
total cost be? P1520.00
3. Find the value of Total Resistance (RT) in Fig.3. 15 OHMS
4. Find the value of Total Current (IT) in Fig.3 4 A

Part IV.
Instruction: Draw a basic electrical layout of below floor plan. (25 pts)

Legends: ceiling mounted light

duple receptacle outlet ceiling mounted light
