INTRODUCTION TO QUANTUM GIS COURSE

Quantum GIS (QGIS) is an open source Geographic Information System that supports most geospatial vector and
raster file types and database formats. The program offers standard GIS functionality, with a variety of mapping
features and data editing. QGIS also has support for plugins that expands its functionality further by providing
additional tools namely: GPS data support, geo referencing, and additional mapping components.

WHY THIS GIS COURSE?

QGIS is one of the most popular software for working with spatial data. It has flexibility to scale with user
requirements: from a simple data viewer, to data collection, editing and analysis, to serving data on the web – on as
numerous machines as required and without any licensing concerns.

ABOUT THE COURSE:

GOOLEE is offering this high impact capacity building workshop to individuals and organizations. This workshop
introduces the fundamental principles and methods of GIS. It investigates the processes contained in the capture,
storage, manipulation, analysis, presentation and output of digital geographical data in a GIS and provides
opportunities for the development of practical skills in processing data using QGIS and covers all the essential
features and functions of the program. Participants will learn useful GIS professional skills through hands-on
exercises and apply a number of techniques to their data.

COURSE GOAL:
The goal of this course is to practically orient and expose participants to geospatial analysis using QGIS.

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE:

 To introduce participants to geospatial analysis.
 To enable participants define GIS
 To enable participants use GIS to identify, explore, understand, and solve spatial problems
 To enable participants demonstrate GIS modeling skills
 To enable participants demonstrate critical thinking skills in solving geospatial problems.
 To enable participants design and implement a GIS project
 To enable participants demonstrate competency with the QGIS software and enhance and interpret data
 To enable participants queries in GIS Analysis
 To enable participants formulate applications of GIS technology.

COURSE CONTENT:
The course is organized in modules and each module covers a reasonable content to enable participants connect
and progress successively in the next modules.
