ACTIVITY 1

Human beings possess the ability to project our thought forward to speculate about what will happen in
our future. We can contemplate our own mortality and reflect on existence beyond our own lives. Doing
so can plunge us into despair or elevate us to heights of exultation. In times of desperation, can art serve
as a talisman, an object believed to have power to bring luck or offer protection, against those things or
events we fear in hope the occurrence can be warded off. Defend your answer.

We live in this world where people used art to develop a new life. Art has a lot to offer, art can change a
plane and boring place into a paradise that full of bright colors. But art does not only contribute to the
beauty of a place but also to the lives of a human being. Art unconsciously travels us to the other
dimension that we have not been before, it brings us in another world where we are in control to obtain
our goal. The power of art has made life more comfortable and that is inevitable. Art has a big contribute

m
to make the world a better place to dwell in. That is why I firmly believe that in any circumstances, art

er as
can serve as a talisman that will bring luck and serve as our protection.

What we see above is the Four Apples painted by the famous painter Mr. Paul Cézanne in 1881. I choose

this for the particular reason that the artwork states the obvious, the painting itself is recognizable and

easy to identify. Figurative art or representational art represents objects or events in the real world,

usually looking easily recognizable.

The artwork above is named Convergence, painted by the well-known painter Mr. Jackson Pollock in
1952. This artwork is non-representational because it does not depict anything in the real world. A work
of figures, landscapes, animals, etc., that does not depict anything from the real world or not realistic is
sh

called non-representational. Non-representational art may portray shapes, colors, lines, etc., but may
also express things that are not visible such as feelings or emotion.
