Problem: Numerical analysis of cantilever beam subjected to various static loading conditions
(concentrated/pointed loads).

1. Open Ansys Mechanical APDL 15.0


2. Preferences > select structural > Ok
3. Preprocessor > Element Type > Add/Edit/Delete > Add > select Beam > Select 2 node 188 >
Element Type reference number 1 > Ok > Close
4. Preprocessor > Materials > Material Models > Material Model Number 1 > Select Structural >
Select Linear > Select Elastic > Select Isotropic > Enter Ex: 2e11 & PRXY:0.33 > Ok > Close
5. Preprocessor > Sections >Beam > Common Sections > Enter B:0.1 & H:0.05 > Ok
6. Preprocessor > Modelling > Key Points > in Active CS > Key point Number : 1 > Enter X: 0,
Y: 0, Z: 0 > Apply > Key point Number : 2 > Enter X: 1, Y: 0, Z: 0 > Ok
7. Repeat the step-6 for multiple point creation with appropriate coordinates.
8. Preprocessor > Modelling > Create > Lines > Lines > Straight Line > Select two end points of
straight line > Ok
9. Repeat step-8 for multiple line creation.
10. Preprocessor > Meshing > Mesh Tool > Click on Lines Set Button > Select the elements (lines)
which you want to mesh by clicking them (Cross Check : if you are selecting the element the
colour will be changed) > Ok > Enter NDIV : 10 > Ok (Cross Check : The Structural elements
now will be divided in to small elements)
11. Preprocessor > Meshing > Mesh Tool > Click on Lines Mesh button > Select the lines > Ok
12. Solution > Define Loads > Apply > Structural > Displacement > On Key Points > Select the
Point in Work Space > Ok > Select All DOF > Ok (Cross Check : A Symbol will be displayed
at the point)
13. Solution > Define Loads > Apply > Structural > Force/Moment > On Key Points > Select the
Point in Work Space > Ok > Direction of Force : Fy > Enter -5000 > Ok
14. Repeat the step-13 for multiple force creation. (Force SI unit : N)
15. Solution > Solve > Current LS > Wait for the “Solution Done” message
16. General Post Proc > Plot Results > Deformed Shapes > Select Def + undeformed > Ok
17. General Post Proc > Element Table >Define Table > Add > Scroll down & select By sequence
number > Select SMISC > Type SMIC, 3 > Apply
18. Repeat the above step for SMIC,6 SMISC, 16 SMISC, 19 > Ok
19. General Post Proc > Plot Results > Deformed Shape > Contour Plot > Line Elem Res > Select
SMISC 6 & SMISC 19 for SFD > Ok
20. General Post Proc > Plot Results > Deformed Shape > Contour Plot > Line Elem Res > Select
SMISC 3 & SMISC 16 for BMD > Ok
21. Menu Bar > Plot Controls > Style >size and shape > Check display of elements > Ok
