Lesson 1 What is SAP?

 SAP: Systems, Applications and Products

 SAP ECC is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system

 Since SAP was designed to perform many different tasks in various


business areas, it is composed of several “modules”

 Each module is made up of many “transactions”

 A transaction corresponds to a “task” within a module

 For instance in the Human Capital Management module there is a


transaction “Maintain Employee Master Data”

How to log on to SAP

You will have the following options to log on to SAP when we go live:
 Using an Icon from your desktop

Logging on to SAP

“Client” will be defaulted in the


Production system (live).

Type in your user ID.

Type your password.

Type language chosen. The default


language will be English (EN)

Click or Press ENTER.

Changing Password

When your first connect to the system, you might be asked to change your
password.

Type a new password

Repeat your new password

Click to confirm

The new password will be the one to use when you next log on.

Logging Off

You can log off the system using any


of the following options:

1. Pressing the () icon from the menu


bar.

2. Click on the System from the menu


bar then click on “Log off” or “End
Session”.

3. Click on the Exit button from your


SAP screen.

Stopping Transaction

In case you need to cancel or stop a running transaction, and the system is
not responding, then you can stop the transaction by clicking on this ( )
icon followed by ‘Stop Transaction’.

choosing the dropdown
arrows to the left of the
menu folder.

Screen Tabs

Different functions and options are grouped in to separate tabs. This helps the users
to easily identify the required data, and change it if needed, without jumping to
different windows.

Multiple Selection

Sometimes, there is a need to choose multiple objects, for executing a transaction


or reports. You can use the functions as shown below:

You can create a list of frequently used


transactions in the favorite folder. So you
do not need to navigate through the tree

You can add a favorite using a number of


options:

 Using the Menu bar

 Using the Insert favorite icon

 Right-clicking on the transaction

You can also change its name or delete


it

You can find the transaction you want to


add to your favorite list, then click on the
Add to favorite icon.

You can click on the Edit icon to change


the description of the transaction code

Transaction Code

You can start a transaction using


the following options:
 Expanding the folder and finding
the correct transaction code
 Entering the transaction code (e.g,
PA30) in the command field

Display Technical Name

Users are able to customize some settings from the SAP screen.

An important setting is to show the transaction codes on the navigation tree

Transaction Code

The Transaction code (T-Code) is an easy way to execute a task with no need to
navigate through SAP navigation tree.

Creating Session

 SAP gives the possibility to execute several tasks at the same time

 Each task (or transaction) is open under a different session

 Each session is independent of each others.

1 session = 1 window

Find Search Icon

When the search screen displays you can use the standard windows searching
options to search and display the result.

Always try to provide as much information as available, to restrict the search and
make the search faster.
