DISC GUIDELINES FOR INTERNSHIP ACADEMIC CREDIT
In order to receive academic credit, students must first submit an internship academic credit request to
be processed by the Rockwell Career Center and approved by the DISC Internship Faculty Advisors.
Please read this document carefully as it provides general guidelines for submitting an internship
academic credit request and functions as the DISC syllabus.

Key Facts of the Course


Enrollment is done via General Petition; enrollment is not done through PeopleSoft
Internship course carries three hours of upper level academic credit
The course does not affect your GPA (S/U)
Academic credit is given to new experiences only; academic credit will not be given for general
work experiences as your assignment must be an internship, not a job
The internship must have beginning and end dates, and must have concrete professional
development objectives
Students are responsible for reading the syllabus and submitting assignments according to the
Internship Faculty Advisor’s directions

SCM 4369: Supply Chain Management Internship Prerequisites


SCM majors only and junior/senior standing; you must have a degree plan filed
Students must have a 2.5 GPA at the time of SCM 4369 enrollment
Complete SCM 3301, SCM 4361, and at least two of the following SCM courses: 4362, 4363,
4365, 4366, 4367, 4368, 4370, 4371, and 4397
Practicum in one of the areas of Operation Management, Logistics, or Supply Chain
Management in a manufacturing or services sector organization
Internship must include 10+ hours of professional duties per week
Students must meet with the internship faculty sponsor prior to being enrolled in SCM 4369 and
beginning the internship assignment
Students must attend a mandatory Internship Academic Credit Request Orientation (RSVP
through Bauer Career Gateway)

MIS 4398: Management Information Systems Internship Prerequisites


MIS majors only and junior/senior standing; you must have a degree plan filed
Students must have a 2.5 GPA at the time of MIS 4398 enrollment
Complete MIS 3360 and at least one of the following MIS courses: 3370, 3371, and 3376
Practicum in the design, development, and implementation of information systems
Internship must include 10+ hours of professional duties per week
Students must meet with the internship faculty sponsor prior to being enrolled in MIS 4398 and
beginning the internship assignment
Students must attend a mandatory Internship Academic Credit Request Orientation (RSVP
through Bauer Career Gateway)

Internship Academic Credit Request Approval Process
The following items MUST be submitted to the Rockwell Career Center on or before Wednesday,
January 5, 2011 at 5:00PM in order for your internship academic credit request to be processed:

 Check option 17 and under “EXPLANATION OF REQUEST”


state “SCM 4369” OR “MIS 4398,” whichever is applicable

All forms are available on the Rockwell Career Center website.

Please note: Students must attend the mandatory Internship Academic Credit Request Orientation
before submitting any forms. We cannot process your request until all required documents have been
received and properly filled out. All documents must be original; no copies will be processed. Any
documents filled out incorrectly will not be processed and the student is responsible for
correcting/resubmitting a new document. Thereafter, allow at least two to three weeks for processing.
Enrollment in the internship course will be conducted by the Director of Registration after approval from
faculty and the Dean’s office.

Holds: Should you have a hold on your PeopleSoft account, you will not be enrolled in the internship
course; the hold must be removed before you may be enrolled.

Re-Enrollment: If you are dropped from the course for any reason, you must send an e-mail to Estela
Cisneros, Internship Assistant, requesting to be re-enrolled. Students will not be re-enrolled
automatically. Also, if you are dropped a second time you cannot be re-enrolled and will be ineligible
for internship academic credit for the spring 2011 semester.

Daily Journal
Students are responsible for providing the Internship Faculty Advisor with a daily journal that records
what you have worked on during the internship assignment with (a) what, if anything, new has been
learned during the day and (b) what obstacles were faced and/or accomplished. Daily journal entries
must be e-mailed to the Internship Faculty Advisor by Monday at 5:00PM of the following week.

Internship Presentation
During the final week of the internship assignment, students are required to give an internship
presentation to both the internship supervisor and the Internship Faculty Advisor summarizing the
major accomplishments and skills learned during the internship. Other personnel with whom you have
worked during your internship assignment may be invited to attend the presentation. Contact your
Internship Faculty Advisor to make arrangements by Wednesday, May 4, 2011.

Complete the following items through Bauer Career Gateway by Wednesday, May 4, 2011:
