What you won’t get from me today
• I am not a lawyer!
• There is not enough time to go into depth
(and I don’t suppose you want me to!)

Overview - Regulations
• What is a regulation?
- A rule designed to control the conduct of those
to whom it applies
- Typically requires somebody to enforce it and
perhaps a penalty for not doing what is asked
for.
• The regulation could indirectly affect installers by
obliging their customer do something.
6
Overview - Other Rules
• Alternatives to regulation?
- Public / Customer / Moral pressure
- e.g. Food Hygiene Ratings, Competition
- Self Regulation
- e.g. Industry Codes of Practice and Schemes
- Contractual and Financial Incentives
