Project Proposal For Installation of Stand-Alone Solar Powered Street Lamps
Project Proposal For Installation of Stand-Alone Solar Powered Street Lamps
ABSTRACT
For the past few decades, solar power has gained a lot of interest in terms of renewability and
sustainability. With the current photovoltaic technology, many systems can be fully powered with solar
power such as home appliances, security lighting and even street lights. In this proposal, we suggest a
stand-alone solar powered street lights that can autonomously operate with little or no maintenance for
several months. The street lamps will be fully powered by 60W photovoltaic panel per unit and Li-Ion
battery packs. This ensures that the lamp runs for up to 3 (three) rainy or cloudy days. We will install 60
(sixty) lamps on one side of the road inside Guadanoville Subd Brgy. 183 Caloocan City.
BACKGROUND
A standalone solar photovoltaic street lighting system is an outdoor lighting unit used for illuminating a
street or an open area. Recent advances in LED lighting have brought very promising opportunities for
application in street lighting. Combining LED’s low power, high illumination characteristics with current
photovoltaic (PV) technology, PV powered street light utilizing LED has become a norm in many places.
In today’s application, most of the common High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps, often High-Pressure
Sodium (HPS) lamps are being replaced by more low powered Light Emitting Diode (LED) lamps.
COST
Each solar powered street lamps will cost PHP 12,000 (twelve thousand pesos) that includes not just the
materials but also the installation.
