CODE - DESCRIPTION

An electronic engine immobilizing system known as the FIAT CODE has been adopted to improve protection against theft attempts.

All the keys are equipped with an electronic transponder device that sends a coded signal to a special control unit (incorporated in
the Body Computer): if the latter recognises the sent code, it allows engine to be started.

The code used in the dialogue that takes place via an aerial coaxial to the ignition switch, varies each time the engine is started
(rolling code): therefore the code cannot be reproduced even using electronic scanners.

The Code control unit's main function is recognising the key in the ignition switch: it contains the secret code used in the dialogue
with the key transponder; the unit's memory contains all the codes for enabled keys and the code used in the dialogue with the
Powertrain Control Module.

When the key is turned to the ON position for the first time, if the key is correctly recognized this code is transferred to the
Powertrain Control Module and remains inextricably linked to the Code unit and therefore to the Body Computer.

The function involves the display of the status through the "vehicle protection system - CODE " warning light in the instrument
panel and connected via the CAN coming on.

CODE - FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

The Body Computer M001 receives a direct battery power supply at pin A of connector A. This supply is protected upstream by
fuse F71 (BCM1) of the maxifuse control unit on the battery B099 (connector D).

The Body Computer M001 also receives an ignition-operated supply (INT) at pin 2 of connector G.

It is connected to the earth of the central dashboard C022 (connector A) via pins 1 and 11 of connector G.

The aerial for the CODE P091 device is connected to pins 15 (signal) and 30 (earth) of connector H of the Body Computer M001.

The key recognition dialogue and the code exchange between the Body Computer M001 and the Powertrain Control Module M010
occurs through the C-CAN, via pins 37 and 38 of connector D of the Body computer M001 and the Powertrain Control Module M010
(pins 83 and 84 of connector B for the 3.0 JTD version, pins 70 and 69 of connector B for the 2.3 JTD version, pins 31 and 30 of
connector B for the 2.3 Euro 6 JTD and for 2.0 Euro 6 JTD version, pins 25 and 24 of connector B for the 2.0 JTD version; pins 20
and 51 of connector B for the Natural Power version).

The Body Computer M001 is connected, via the B-CAN line, from pins 11 and 26 of connector H, to the instrument panel E050
(pins 5 and 6) to manage the "vehicle protection system - CODE failure" warning light.
