1. Give your opinion about the definition of grammar translation method, direct method,
and audio-lingual method!
 The grammar-translation method is one of the most traditional methods, dating
back to the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It was originally used
to teach ‘dead’ languages (and literatures) such as Latin and Greek.
 Direct Method is a method of teaching language directly establishing a direct
or immediate association between experience and expression, between the
English word, phrase or idiom and its meaning through demonstration,
dramatization without the use of the mother tongue.
 The Audio-lingual Method is a method of foreign language teaching which
emphasizes the teaching of listening and speaking before reading and writing.
It uses dialogues as the main form of language presentation and drills as the
main training techniques. Mother tongue is discouraged in the classroom.
2. What are the differences of grammar translation method, direct method, and audio-
lingual method?
 The grammar-translation method, students are expected to be able to translate
one language into another. If you can translate it, so this learning is
considered successful. The ability of students to communicate using the target
language is not the main goal to be achieved in this method but the ability to
understand and translate literature.
 Direct Method, to build a direct relation between experience and language,
word and idea, thought and expression. This method intends for students to
learn how to communicate in the target language. This method is based on the
assumption that the learner should experience the new language in the same
way as he/she experienced his/her mother tongue.
 The general objective of the Audio-lingual Method is to enable the target
language communicatively, Short-range objective is the development of
mastery in all four language skills, beginning with listening and speaking, and
using these as a basis for the teaching of reading and writing. Long-range
objective, or the ultimate goal, is to develop in the students the same types of
abilities that native speaking have, to use it automatically without stopping to
think.

3. Do you have an experience in teaching English by using tradisional method? If yes,


please tell it!
I have never had the experience of teaching English by using traditional method. But
my teacher taught me using traditional method.
