DHCP Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol - procedure for assigning
numeric IP address to nodes in which blocks of addresses are leased
to clients on a first-come, first-serve basis. Typically, DHCP is com-

assigned and automatically associated with a domain name. This can
be combined with DNS, resulting in a dynamically assigned numeric
IP address that is automatically associated with both NetBIOS and
Internet names.
DNS Domain Name Services - address resolution procedure that associ-

FTP File Transfer Protocol - a client-server application that transfers files
from one computer to another

LMHOSTS Address resolution procedure which statically associates numeric IP
addresses with NetBIOS names. The LMHOSTS file is checked to
see if the name is being addressed in this file.

Overview 1

ICS + IRS = Navigator

In standard configuration, the ICS is the main console for interchangeable scanning and
imaging functions. The IRS is equipped with four computers as well as switchable key-
board, mouse and monitor.
IES = Wizard
The IES console may be installed in parallel to the main operator ICS console via a
shared database link. The IES is used as a second console for postprocessing applica-
tions.

NOTICE The Wizard (IES) can run only when the ICS is switched on; if the
ICS is switched off, the shared database cannot be accessed.

Software not approved by Siemens 1

Warning Unauthorized or incorrect operation or changes to software can

cause malfunctions in your system. This can result in injuries or
system defects. For this reason, the use or installation of software
not approved by Siemens is strictly prohibited.

Software kit VA47 for Navigator, IRS and Wizard 1

The software installation kit for SOMATOM systems is included in the delivery volume.

Note The CD SOMARIS/5 VA47B (A) includes the software for installa-
tion of both the Navigator (ICS) and the Wizard (IES).

Backup media 1

The standard backup device for Navigator and for the Wizard is the CD-Writer (drive [-R-]
CD-R). Alternatively, the MOD may be used, if available.
• Make sure a separate backup media (e.g. "CD Recordable") is on hand for both the
Navigator and the Wizard (if available).

Configuration of CD-R Write mode 2

The setting for the optional single session mode for CD-R burning is not contained in the
backup. The single session mode has to be configured explicitly after each SW installa-
tion; otherwise, the multi-session mode is configured by default.
Check the entry in the Windows NT registry for the current settting.
• From the <Start> button menu, select Run and type in regedit.
• In the registry path select
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Siemens\MedCom\Config\Modality\
archnet_common\CDR_MULTISESSION_FLAG\V1
Check the parameter V1; a value = 1 indicates a multi-session mode.
If the value V1 = 0, the single session mode is set.
