 Overview
 The programme is made up of eight modules that encompass the theoretical, practical and
experiential learning experience required to become professional Play Therapists. All modules
are designed to prepare the students for therapeutic practice that is theoretically sound and
emotionally aware.

 Provides the students with a thorough and comprehensive understanding of therapy and
practice.

 Purpose of the course


Students who successfully complete the programme will:
 Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the theory and practice of Play Therapy
 Exhibit in depth knowledge and understanding of both the development and role of
play, creativity and symbolism including psychopathology related to these realms of
human development;
 Contrast, compare and critically evaluate a variety of models of Play Therapy (e.g. non-
directive; developmental; directive; social constructionist) through an understanding of
relevant psychological, sociological and psychiatric theories;
 Assess and evaluate the standards of their own Play Therapy practice;
 Understand a therapeutic relationship through their personal therapy and examine
critically their capacities to be empathic as a therapist.

One year external, distance learning or online education (12months)

 Requirement for Admission
 Post graduation in Psychology (10+2+3 + 2 years of study)
 Post graduation in subjects other than psychology can do an integrated PG Diploma
course which will have two papers of psychology additional to regular PG Diploma
curriculum. Contact your student advisor to know more details about Integrated PG
Diploma.
 If English is not your first language, an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent when you start
the course is essential.

 The competencies to work with all children (individual and group) of with all problems
where Play therapy is suitable and with children and young people with mild to severe
problems
 A sound understanding of the principles underlying play therapy and the appropriate
use of techniques
 The competencies required for running play therapy sessions with groups of children as
well as individuals
 An ability to make decisions taking into account the ethical issues concerning all parties
involved
 Increased confidence in using play therapy with children and adolescents and
communications with referrers, parents and guardians
 The counseling, therapeutic and practical skills to carry out effective play therapy
 Awareness of your own process and development
 A comprehensive theoretical knowledge of child development and child psychology

 Course Structure
 Your course will contain eight modules
 Four compulsory modules
 Three optional modules
 One pragmatic & dissertation at the end of the course
 The compulsory modules will have 45 days to complete
 The dissertation will have 45 days to complete and will be done at the end of the course
 Books and other required resources materials will be sent to you well before the start of
the concerned paper
 Resource materials and books will be sent either as hard copies or soft copies depending
up on the guide’s instruction and availability
 A guide will be allotted and he/ she will be supporting the student in completing each
paper/ module and the dissertation successfully
 Dissertation can be done as an empirical data study or a theoretical study.
