1. Given 𝑓(𝑥) = 2
, determine the following: [K/A 6 marks]

a. The inverse of 𝑓(𝑥)

b. The domain and range of 𝑓(𝑥)

c. The domain and range of 𝑓 (𝑥)
−1
2. If the points (1 , − 1); (2 , − 3) are on the inverse of a linear function 𝑓 (𝑥),
determine the function 𝑓(𝑥). [K/A 5 marks]

[Hint: General equation of linear function is y = mx + b]

3. Given the function 𝑓(𝑥) = − 3(𝑥 + 1) − 2 :

a) Determine the equation of the inverse of the function 𝑓(𝑥) [K/A /3]

b) Is the inverse of 𝑓(𝑥) a function? Explain.

If not, restrict the domain of 𝑓(𝑥) such that its inverse is a function. Include ALL
possibilities.
[C/T /4]

c) Sketch the function 𝑓(𝑥) , and its inverse 𝑓 (𝑥) in the same graph.

REMEMBER: NO GRAPHING SOFTWARE. ALL GRAPHS MUST BE DONE BY HAND.

Drawing tools are acceptable but be precise.

USE DIFFERENT COLOURS FOR EACH CURVE. [C/T 4 marks]

d) State the DOMAIN and RANGE of the given functions and its inverse (the functions
from part c). [C/T /4]
