While the auctions of IPL-4 were eagerly awaited, it was a well known fact that star player Saurav
Ganguly was not retained by the Kolkotta Knight Riders. Now with the auctions over the Prince of Kolkatta
has still remained unsold which has come about as a rude shock to the cricketing world. This has caused
major embarrassment to the star batsmen and his fans haven’t taken to it lightly. In many parts all over
Kolkatta , angry fans burnt the effigies and posters of Shahrukh Khan who is the owner of Kolkatta Knight
Riders.
Leading industrialists of India have flocked to Gujrat to sign MOU’s during the two-day long Vibrant
Gujarat Summit that began on 12/1/2011. Chief Minister announced that the state has been able to attract
investments to the tune of Rs 20.83 lakh crores during the two-day long Summit. As many as 7,936 MoUs
were signed by the state government with several industrial houses to invest in the state. It is rare for 60
of India’s top Industrialists representing companies that command the bulk of market capitalization, to
share the dais at a single event and it is even rarer to make investments to the tune of thousandths of
crores for a single state and that too over just two days. The major investments include Anil Ambani
group, Adani Group, Essar Group, Larsen & Toubro, Mahindra & Mahindra and many others.
Just a few months back youths of Kashmir could be seen thronging the streets of Kashmir raising
massive protests against the security forces of the State. On 12/1/2001 the youths had assembled in
hundreds outside a security force camp in Kashmir. They had all come to secure a job as constable in the
State Police. The state has a high rate of unemployment and this incident would have attracted not much
attention under normal circumstances. But the fact that many of these youths were believed to be
involved in clashes with police last year makes the recent development notable.
