1.0 INTRODUCTION
New Era Library is a new concept library by allowing all the Malaysia
universities’ and colleges’ students borrow the book. Due to the large amount of users,
New Era Library needs to have a more efficient system that can improve the
efficiency of the library. So, New Era Library Management System will use Red
Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.
Current library management systems use barcode technology and security strips.
Using barcodes, a library management system can keep records of lending, borrowing
and shelving status of items such as books, audio or video tapes, CDs, DVDs, etc.
Security strips on library items tag their movements.
But barcodes and security strips (electronic article surveillance or EAS) have
their limitations. They are slow to read and are prone to sabotaging by thieves. All
these lead to irreparable loss to a library and its valuable inventory stock. This is
where RFID technology can come to the aid of library managers and users.
RFID technology is not just there to tags books and other library assets; it will
provide a comprehensive route for enhancing all library services and upgrade
operations for everyone concerned with the library.
a) PURPOSE OF PLAN
The purpose of this plan is to describe details of the development of New Era Library
Management System. In this plan includes background, methodology, assumption,
constraints, deliverables, organization chart, project budget and schedule plan.
b) BACKGROUND OF INFORMATION
The library uses RFID to speed up the self check in/out processes, to control the
theft and to ease the inventory control in library. The barcode technology is slowly
getting replaced by the RFID technology. The RFID tag does not have to be visible
for detection. It can be read even when it is embedded in an item, such as in the
cardboard cover of a book or in the packaging of a product. It can also store data such
as stack number, accession number, book number, author information etc., but
barcode is limited to just an identification number.
c) PROJECT METHODOLOGY
Assumptions
Identifier Assumption
A1 All the worker have to know basic computer knowledge
A2 Budget must be high because have using many particular like
Reader & Antenna and Security Gate – Pair Plus Software
Module
A3 The end user also have to know basic skill to enable them to
uses this system
A4 Because of this project using a lot of money and high
technology, it may cannot be finish on time
A5 All the worker have to know basic computer knowledge
Constraints
Constraint Identifier Constraint
C1 Worker may not easy understand requirement of this
project and may need more time to achieving the goal
C2 Programmer have to learn a new programming language
to startup the program, this may need some time to learn
C3 Engineer have to cooperate with programmer to make the
project done
C4 Security gate are too expensive
e) PROJECT DELIVERABLES
A system that has completed Programmer and 1Jan 2011 The system The programmer have to
programming stage and has Engineer handed directly program the system and
been tested the engineer have
integrate it with the
sensor gate
User execute the program Librarian 1 Apr 2011 - A fully complete and
useable program that can
easy use by the user
