Selection Committee
Alta Scuola Politecnica (ASP)

My name is Juan David Rincón and through these lines I send a cordial greeting from
Colombia and at the same time I expose the reasons why I want to be part of the joint venture
between the Politecnico di Torino and the Politecnico di Milano, known as Alta Scuola
Politecnica (ASP).

I am graduated from the bachelor’s degree in mining and Metallurgy Engineering with a
specialization in Geotechnics from the National University of Colombia (UNAL). Prior to my
graduation and due to my excellent academic performance, I was monitor of some courses
like mining´s ventilation, soils mechanics and geology which allowed me to get involved in
research projects, achieving objectives such as the publication of a scientific article in my
internship. At that time, I knew that researching is what I am most passionate about and in
which I wanted to direct my professional life, that is why today I belong to a research group
at UNAL, in which we sustainably impact society and the environment. Likewise, I have had
the opportunity to work in the industrial sector of my country in several projects such as the
mining formalization with the Gran Colombia Gold company, in which we obtained
important results that positively impacted small artisanal miners, improving their productions,
and reducing the impact on the environment.

My motivation in wanting to be part of this joint venture is due to its interuniversity

projection, the program's focus on preparing students in an advanced interdisciplinary
training path to understand, analyze and innovate. Without a doubt, this will be valuable for
my academic and professional growth, as well as having a true opportunity of a global
environment for the exchange and enrichment of my ideas through the experience of other
students.

Another reason to apply for this program is due to the multidisciplinary projects that are
available, and where I am more than convinced that I can contribute from my experience and
skills to achieve the goals and objectives. They are also projects that will allow me to practice
the process of visualizing, framing, planning, and implementing innovation.

Finally, I feel motivated and encouraged as I have always had the support of my family to
continue my personal and academic growth. On the other hand, having this opportunity will
allow me to be an ambassador of my culture and contribute to the interdisciplinary and
interuniversity approach of the program.

Sincerely,
