DIRECTION: Solve the following problems. Show complete solution. Enclose all final answers in a box.
WARNING: Any form of CHEATING is not tolerated. Those guilty of this violation will incur a ZERO SCORE and will be
subjected to a disciplinary action from the Student Disciplinary Unit.
1. Determine the noise factor for 3 cascaded amplifiers with the following parameters: A1 = 10dB, A2 = 10dB,
A3 = 20dB, NF1 = 10dB, NF2 = 6dB and NF3 = 10dB.
2. A 300Ω resistor is connected across the 300Ω antenna input of a television receiver. The bandwidth of the
receiver is 6 MHz and the ambient temperature is 20 degrees Celsius. Find the noise power present in the
system.
3. An AM modulator is being modulated by 4 signals, three of those signals has indexes of 0.2, 0.35 and 0.4.
What should be the index of the 4th signal to achieve 100% modulation?
4. When the modulating frequency in an FM system is 500 Hz and the modulating voltage is 2.6 V, the
modulation index is 40. Find the maximum deviation. What is the modulation index when the modulating
frequency is raised to 800 Hz and the modulating voltage is simultaneously reduced to 1.3 V?
5. A frequency modulated signal which is modulated by a 3-kHz sine wave reaches a maximum frequency of
100.02 MHz and a minimum frequency of 99.98Mhz. (a) Determine the carrier swing, (b) Find the carrier
frequency, (c) Calculate the frequency deviation of the signal (d) Find the modulation index of the signal.
6. An FM transmission has a frequency deviation of 20 kHz. Determine:
a. % modulation of this signal if it is broadcasted in the 88-108 MHz band.
b. Calculate the % modulation if this signal is broadcasted as the audio portion of a tv broadcast.
Handwrite on the lowest portion of the LAST PAGE of your answer sheet.
