Purpose of the report

The main purpose of inspection is to provide objective, independent, and impartial

information regarding the condition of cable ladder at Ex-Loading dock.

Knowing the true condition of cable ladder at Ex-Loading dock, will enable you to determine
the true cost of buying it and as well as to repair or correct minor problems before they
become major ones.

Extent of Cable Ladder Inspection

a. 100% of Cable ladder have undergone a thorough visual inspection.
b. 100% of cable ladder c-channel supports undergone a thorough visual inspection.
c. 80% of cable ladder size measured with measuring tape.
d. 50% of electrical wires inspected for any damage.
e. 100% of electrical wires inspected of drowning in sea water where the cable
ladder was completely damage.
f. 100% of material noted for new cable ladder installation & maintenance.
g. 100% area of cable ladder inspected for scaffolding installation.

Observations and Recommendations

In Dolphin-A area of ELD all type of cable ladders are damage/broken/drowned in the sea
because of corrosion and old age. It has observed that electricsl cables are stretched out &
somewhere hanged by the rope & tied with grounding cables. Cable ladder grounding
system also not working because of broken cable ladders, which may not trigger the
electrical safety system in case of short circuit between cable ladder & wires.
Considering the above mentioned points it’s recommended to change all broken ladder
and c-channel supports with new ones.
A. Dolphin-A Area
1. Incoming main power supply cable (13KV) from offshore entry point in Dolphin-A
area to junction box is in good condition.
2. Cable ladder & c-channel supports of 13KV power supply cable from junction box to
switchgear room are damage and need to replace with new ones.
3. Cable ladder of 13KV power supply cable from switchgear room to step down
transformer is damage and need to replace with new ones.
4. C-channel supports of 13KV power supply cable from switchgear room to step down
transformer are one sided and need to be modified with two sided because one sided
support isn’t enough to bear the weight of 13KV for long duration due to wet weather
condition.
5. Cable ladder & c-channel supports of 480V power supply cable from step down
transformer to switch gear room are damage and need to be replaced with new one.
6. 220V & 110V power supply cables cable ladder & c-channel supports from switchgear
room to automation room are damage and need to be replaced with new ones.
 7. Cable ladder & c-channel sports from automation room to all Motor operated valves
(MOV) are broken and cable are tied & hanged with rope.
8. A bundle of wires are hanging from Switchgear room to Dolphin A flood lights
because c-channel sports has broken and cable tray drowned in sea.
9. 500mm wide cable ladder from switch gear room to bridge has broken & c-channel
supports corrosion which need to be replaced with new one.

B. Bridge Area
During inspection it’s observed that there is two type (500mm & 350mm) of cable
tray installed on bridge to carry electric cables from Dolphin-A area of switchgear
room to Dolphin B area Flood lights, Emergency lights, Receptacles and for bridge
flood lights. Cable tray on bridge is in good condition and no need to replace with
new one.

C. Dolphin B Area
There is 350mm wide cable tray installed in Dolphin B area of ELD. 80% of that is
broken. Some c-channel supports has broken & some has corrosion which may fall in
near future. It’s recommended to change all cable tray and c-channel supports. C-
channel supports are single sided which also need to modified with 2 sided for long
life structure.

D. Loading Area
Two parallel 350mm wide cable ladder installed to carry electric cables for flood
lights, Emergency lights & exit lights in loading area of ELD. Starting and end edges
of cable ladder are damage and broken that need to be maintained with new cable
ladder.

Requirements for Cable ladder maintenance

1. Scaffolding & Safety harness will be required during installation of cable ladder and
c-channel supports.
2. Electric Power must be de-energize from the power station during installation of new
cable ladder in 13KV area of Dolphin-A.
3. Electric power must be de-energized from switch gear panels before installation of
new cable tray in low voltage areas.
4. C-channels support need to fabricate and weld below the deck before new cable
ladder installation. (Welding professionals need to fabricate C-channel support).
5. A paint job will require on existing and new c-channel supports to prevent them from
corrosion. (Painting professionals need to paint C-channel support).
6. New cable ladders & accessories required as mentioned at the end of the report.
