Answer the following questions. Turn in your answers in google classroom in PDF or Document format.

Activity: Take 10 photos of different electronic components discussed that can be seen in your
household. Name it and explain its functions.

1. HDMI cable - is a proprietary audio/video

interface for transmitting uncompressed
video data and compressed or
uncompressed digital audio data from an
HDMI-compliant source device, such as a
display controller, to a compatible computer
monitor, video projector, digital television,
or digital audio device.

2. Filter capacitor - A filter capacitor is a capacitor which

filters out a certain frequency or range of frequencies from
a circuit. Usually capacitors filter out very low frequency
signals. These are signals that are very close to 0Hz in
frequency value. These are also referred to as DC signals.

3. Ceramic capacitor - A ceramic capacitor is a fixed-value

capacitor where the ceramic material acts as the
dielectric. It is constructed of two or more alternating
layers of ceramic and a metal layer acting as the
electrodes. The composition of the ceramic material
defines the electrical behavior and therefore
applications.
4. Rotary switch - Rotary switches are a type of electrical
switch operated by rotation. Rotary switches allow the user
to turn a knob or shaft that increases or decreases the
resistance conducted through the contacts dependent on
the direction of turn. Rotary switches are an ideal
alternative to more conventional toggle or slide switches
when the number of circuits or electrical states in a circuit
requiring control exceeds the capability of toggle and slide
switches. As their name implies, rotary switches function by
means of circular rotation around a central rotor. They can
stop in a number of different actuation positions, turning
different circuits on or off or increasing or decreasing the
value of the circuit. Some rotary switches can be configured
to control multiple contacts simultaneously at a single
switch position.

5. Zener diode - A Zener diode is a silicon semiconductor device that

permits current to flow in either a forward or reverse direction. The
diode consists of a special, heavily doped p-n junction, designed to
conduct in the reverse direction when a certain specified voltage is
reached. The Zener diode has a well-defined reverse breakdown
voltage, at which it starts conducting current, and continues
operating continuously in the reverse-bias mode without getting
damaged.

6. Relay - Relays are electromechanical devices that use an

electromagnet to operate a pair of movable contacts from an
open position to a closed position. The advantage of relays is
that it takes a relatively small amount of power to operate the
relay coil, but the relay itself can be used to control motors,
heaters, lamps or AC circuits which themselves can draw a lot
more electrical power.
7. Rectifier diode – A rectifier diode is a two-lead semiconductor
that allows current to pass in only one direction. Generally, P-N
junction Diode is formed by joining together n-type and p-type
semiconductor materials. The P-type side is called the anode and the
n-type side is called the cathode.

8. Thermistor - A thermistor is a resistance thermometer, or a resistor

whose resistance is dependent on temperature. The term is a
combination of “thermal” and “resistor”. It is made of metallic oxides,
pressed into a bead, disk, or cylindrical shape and then encapsulated
with an impermeable material such as epoxy or glass.

9. Horizontal output transistor - The horizontal output transistor (HOT) is a

switch. It provides a path for current to flow through the flyback’s primary
winding and horizontal yoke as shown in Figure 2. The HOT is switched on and
off by a signal applied to the base. Because this is a power transistor, a current
drive signal is needed. This drive current is supplied by the horizontal driver and
driver transformer. In addition to current step-up, the driver transformer
provides Impedance matching.

10. RCA cord - RCA connector is a type of electrical

connector commonly used to carry audio and video
signals. Found in TV's new and old, Amplifiers,
Speakers, Dvd Players, Vcd Players and Other
Audio/Video Players. This High Quality Composite RCA
Video and Audio Cable is specifically designed to
provide sharp and clear video and sound for your home
theatre system. Audio/Video 3-Wire Cable can
connects a VCR to a monitor for viewing or two VCRs
for audio/video dubbing (in stereo). It is literally two kinds of cable molded together as one for
neat, tangle free installation. Specially designed for one-step video recording and viewing.
