Sources of Oil Lubrication :
Lubrication Process
Oil Properties for Lubricants
Oil Additive
✓ High-quality oil additives can
reduce engine damage over time,
increase the longevity of your
vehicle and improve its overall
performance.
By preserving the
essential additives in your
motor oil, aftermarket engine oil
additives also extend the service
life of your oil by as much as 50%
Oil Contamination
Full Flow Oil
System
✓ “Full flow” means all of the oil is filtered …every
drop of it passes through the engine oil filter
before it is pumped throughout the engine

✓ .The oil is pumped to all the crankshaft and rod

bearings, cam shaft bearings, valve lifters.

✓ Then gravity takes over and the oil flows back

down to the oil pan where it is stored, cooled a bit
then drawn up again by the oil pump and passed
through the filter to make the journey again.
Types of Bearings
Lubrication
✓ Spray Jet/pressure Fed (direct
oil to bearing)
✓ Splash Oil (for light loading
bearing)
✓ Metered Oil (supply right
quantity oil depend on speed
of engine)
✓ Film Lubrication ( surface
separated by oil)
✓ Squeeze film (minimise the
effect of dynamics loads)
Oil Tank
✓ Classified by hot tank(oil cooler
downstream) or cold tank(oil cooler
upstream)
✓ Located above the pump assy (for +ve
flow)
✓ Either vented or pressurize( for +ve flow)
Component :
❑ Anti siphon tube
❑ Gravity filler (prevent major loss of
oil due to not properly fitted cap)
❑ Oil quantity transmitter (for indicator
EACAS)
❑ Pressure fill and overflow port
(provide option filling tank using
pressurize cart) https://www.pexels.com/@mikebirdy
OIL PUMPS
✓ To supply oil under pressure
✓ Type :
✓ Vane Pump (low pressure)
✓ Gerotor Pump (high pressure)
✓ Gear type pump (high pressure)
TYPES OF OIL PUMPS

VANE PUMP GEROTOR PUMP GEAR PUMP

FILTERS
Purpose to prevent any material (debris) other than fluid to pass through.
Type :
Cleanable Screen Filter
✓ From woven wire and reuse after cleaning
✓ Filter above 40micron
Fiber filter
✓ Can screen down to 15 micron
Threrad filter
✓ Last chance filter fit before bearing chamber
Scavenge Screen Filter
✓ Fit to individual scavenge line
✓ To catch large debris
✓ The base is fit with magnetic chip detector
✓ Indicate when detect metal like pop out
FUEL COOL OIL COOLERS
(FCOC)
• Purpose : Cool the oil and
warm the fuel
✓ Located in fuel system
immediately before LP fuel
filter.
✓ fuel cooled oil coolers are
normally fitted in the Low
Pressure engine fuel system.
✓ Many modern engines that
operate at lower pressure for
the high pressure fuel supply
also use fuel heaters that use
compressed air to heat the fuel
in addition to oil heating.
Air-Oil Separation
✓ Oil gain air after pressurisation at the
return oil.
✓ Deaerator is fix at top of oil tank on the
return oil to seperate/baffle air from
oil.
✓ Air is vented or regulated to
maintain +ve pressure.
