We, Filipinos, like any other race, have good and bad side in our humanity. We
are known to have virtues such as the sense of shame (hiya), delicadeza,
palabra de honor, abiding debt of gratitude, pakikisama, and other positive
attitudes. On the other hand, the reality of our struggle against vices like amor
propio, colonial mentality, crab mentality, ningas cogon, mañana habit, and
other undesirable traits cannot be downplayed. These are the two faces of a
true Filipino identity.

Make a simple survey among your relatives, friends, and family members by
marking the said traits from 1 to 10 (1 being the most passive and 10 being the
most dominant). Names can be optional. Below is a sample form.

Speech of the Century

Man is reasonable and just. He thinks of the good and wills for the good. Plato
argued, “Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools, because
they have to say something.” Indeed, a wise counsel is consolation to the soul.

Now that you are acquainted with the core dynamics of any existing society
and the elements substantiated in culture, write a two-paragraph declamation
(five sentences each paragraph) justifying our imperative duty towards fraternal
living and communion and the evils brought by colonialism, racism, and
individualism.
