Puzzles and Riddles – ARG

Find five (5) puzzles or riddles related in problem-solving in Mathematics.
Discuss how it works and explain the solution to the puzzles or riddles using
the concept you have learned in this lesson.
1. Can you write down eight eights so that they add up to one thousand?
Answer:
888 + 88 + 8 + 8 + 8 = 1000

2. In a certain country, ½ of 5 = 3. If the same proportion holds, what is the

value of ⅓ of 10?
Answer is 3.
 Because ½ of 5 = 2.5, which is rounded to the next number, i.e., 3.
Similarly, ⅓ of 10 is 3.33, which when rounded to the previous number
is 3.

3. What number comes next?

1, 3, 6, 10, 15, 21, ___
Answer is 28!
 As you see, we get 3 by adding 2 to the first digit 1. Similarly, when
we add 3 to the next digit, 3 we get 6, and so on.

4. A worker is to perform work for you for seven straight days. In return
for his work, you will pay him 1/7th of a bar of gold per day. The worker
requires a daily payment of 1/7th of the bar of gold. What and where are
the fewest number of cuts to the bar of gold that will allow you to pay
him 1/7th each day?
Answer is just.
 Day one: you make your first cut at the 1/7th mark and give that to
the worker.
  Day two: cut 2/7ths and pay that to the worker and receive as change
in the previous day.
 Day three: you give the worker the 1/7th you received as change on
the previous day.
 Day four: you give the worker 4/7ths and he return his 1/7 th cut and
his 2/7 cut as change.
 Day five: you give the worker back the 1/7th cut of gold.
 Day six: you give the worker the 2/7ths cut and receive the 1/7 th cut
back change.
 Day seven: you pay the worker his final 1/7th.

5. Tanu lives on the 13th floor takes the elevator down to the floor every
morning and goes into her office. In evening, when she comes back on a
rainy day, as if there are other people around in the elevator, she goes
to her 13th floor directly. Otherwise, she goes to the 10th floor and walks
up three flights of stairs to his apartment. What’s the reason for her
unusual apartment.

Answer:
The human is a sort stature, she can’t react upper elevator buttons, but
can push is with his umbrella.
