The students will use their understanding of the dances to maintain a healthy lifestyle and promote weight
management to society. This may also help the studnets to appreciate dance that will encourage them to become dance
instructors and to advocate and support lifestyle fitness in the community.

Assess physical activities, exercises, and eating habits;
Determine risk factors related to lifestyle diseases (obesity, diabetes, and heart diseases);
Engage in moderate to vigorous physical activities for at least 60 minutes a day in and out of school;
Applying correct techniques to minimize risk of injuries; and
Express a sense of purpose belongingness by participating in physical-activity-related community services and
programs.
Dance is a very good form of exercise. It is a physical recreation that can be performed solo or by group. It contributes to the lifestyle of
an individual, community, and society.
Dancing helps in burning fat and calories. it is an ideal activity for people who would want to achieve lifelong fitness. Aside from its
physical benefits, it also provides enhancement on the different dimensions of health such as social emotional and mental areas in life.
People can also decide on the form of dance to engage in because of the variations it offers-hip-hop, street dance, and festival dances,
among others. Itis an active recreation that builds a solid foyndation to lifetime physical involvement

Let Us Study
Street Dancing, also known as festival dances, varies from place to place. The style used depends on the birth or origin of
the dance. Usually, street dances are practiced during parades to let the people in the community appreciate and preserve cultural
and/or upload religious practices.
Popular Festival Dances
A. Ati-atihan
The Ati-atihan is celebrated in Kalibo, Aklan in honor of Sto. Niño in the month of January. It means "to be like Atis." The Atis
are the earliest immigrants of Panay Island where Aklan is located. It consists of tribal dances where dancers are in black body paint with
colorful indigenous costumes.
B. Sinulog
The Sinulog is another festival in honor of Sto. Niño celebrated in Cebu on the third weekend of January. It is known for its
chant "Pit Señor." The procession is followed by street dancing and fluvial parade.
C.Masskara
The Masskara is a festival dance from Bacolod that represents the love for fun and cheerfulness of the Bacolodeños. it is
celebrated every third week- end of October. t started when the sugarcane in- dustry experienced low sales and a vessel carrying many
Negrense sank, which took 700 lives. In the midst of the tragedy, the local government held a festival of smiles that declared that the city
is going to survive despite the bad times.
D. Obando Fertility Rites
The Obando Fertility Rites are a famous festival in Bulacan. It is a three-day celebration every month of May. It is a fertility
dance wherein couples ask- ing for a child participate in the prayer-dancing because they believe that doing such will grant them their
wishes. Farmers and fishers also join in the celebration for thanksgiving.
E. Pahiyas
The Pahiyas is known for the kiping (colored rice paste wafers). It is one of the biggest and famous harvest festivals in the
province of Quezon. This is celebrated annually on the fifteenth of May. It is a festival in honor of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of
farmers. People decorate the facades of their homes with kiping and some fruits and flow ers that make the festival colorful, exciting, and
appealing to the tourists. The feast has gained rec- ognitions locally and internationally because of its visual attraction.
