Soren pouco sabe sobre suas reais origens e


sobre sua ascendência. Quando ainda era muito
novo, sua mãe, uma guerreira de Valenar, foi
encontrada gravemente ferida na estrada por um
gnomo boticário viajante, Reno Thenardier, onde
aparentemente havia sido o cenário de um
sangrento duelo. O gnomo ouviu os barulhos feito
por seu cavalo, gravemente ferido e foi ao seu
encontro, achando a elfa e seu filho. Ela segurava
firmemente o pequeno elfo nos braços, mesmo
desfalecida. Porém, a elfa nunca mais acordou. O
cavalo também não resistiu. Assim que viu o
gnomo pegar a criança no colo parou de fazer
barulho, se deitou e parou de respirar.
A única pista de sua origem era a Double-Bladed
Scimitar quebrada que ainda carrega, a qual
nunca mais veio a ter uso. O gnomo adotou então
a criança e após alguns anos tentando manter sua
vida na estrada percebeu que viajar com uma
criança elfa seria trabalho demais e resolveu fazer
sua residência em Blackforge, onde o garoto
cresceu sem pista do passado.
Aprendeu desde cedo truques e artimanhas pra
ajudar o seu benfeitor na venda de suas poções e
elixires dito "milagrosos", os quais vez ou outra
lhes causavam alguns problemas, fazendo com
que quase sempre procurassem se refugiar nas
partes menos prestigiadas da cidade, lugar onde
Soren passou a conhecer a realidade do
submundo. Conheceu Erodh Noroelwa, um elfo
trambiqueiro, responsável por trazer tudo que era
ilegal para Blackforge. Erodh sempre falava em se
mudar para uma cidade grande onde suas
habilidades o tornariam o líder dos atravessadores
e em levar Soren com ele. Porém, Reno havia
adoecido e agora Soren sentia que deveria cuidar
de seu pai. Erodh um dia disse que havia
conseguido um meio de irem para Sharn mas
Soren não conseguiu deixar o velho gnomo. Esta
seria a última vez que veria Erodh. No dia
seguinte o elfo já não estava mais em Blackforge.
Apenas um bilhete dizendo "Quando chegar em
Sharn não esqueça de me procurar.
Provavelmente estarei na corte. Erodh".
