De La Salle University Medical Center (DLSUMC) is the most well-known medical hospital in Region IV-A
dedicated to providing holistic, high-quality patient medical care services. DLSUMC’s vision is to continue
upgrading its facilities by attaining sophisticated equipment and advanced technology in order to provide the
most comprehensive amenities in Region IV-A. The illustration above shows the Value Chain Analysis of DLSUMC.
The primary activities which is the core of the general operation of DLSUMC include the Admission (inbound
logistics), Care (operations), Discharge (outbound logistics), Marketing and Sales, and Service.

Since DLSUMC is a service industry where it provides medical care services, its operation starts with
admission of patients, or accepting patients in emergency room, or treating outpatients (inbound logistics). Other
inbound logistics activities also include the receiving of medical supplies from its suppliers. From the admission
(inbound logistics), care services (operation) which is the core service of DLSUMC will commence. Medical
supplies from inbound logistics will be used to effectively carry out the general operation of DLSUMC. To give the
required medical treatment, patients will receive physician’s care. They will be subject to clinical assessment,
diagnostic examination, and consultation for diagnosis of particular disease or condition. When patients are done

to undergo a medical treatment and care, it where discharge (outbound logistics) will begin. These activities will
include sending patients home, giving medical advice from doctors or referral to other healthcare facilities.
Another primary activity of DLSUMC is the sales and marketing which involve medical assistance, patient’s
feedbacks, insurance, service pricing, advertising, and promotion. This is an important activity for DLSUMC to
ensure that its services will target larger market. Lastly, activities such as health education, ambulatory care and
wellness referral are part of service activity to maintain its service quality performance.

Moving on, activities such as the hospital support services (procurement), diagnostic and therapeutic
services (technology and development), information support services (human resource management),
infrastructure (hospital admission) form part of the support activities. The first support activity includes the
hospital support services (procurement). Purchasing and procurement of medical equipment or other hospital
supplies are under this procurement support activity. They are also held responsible for the property and
safeguarding inventory supplies. Housekeeping and maintenance are responsible for keeping the environment
clean. Security services also form part of the hospital support services for the protection its stakeholders and
hospital property. Accordingly, diagnostic and therapeutic services (technology and development) include the
updated medical machineries that will be used in general operations. Medical equipment includes MRI, CT scan
and Ultrasound. This also includes medicines for treatments. It also includes therapeutic services such as Physical
therapy, Occupational therapy, Respiratory therapy, and such. Another support activity is the information
support services (human resource management). This support activities includes the hiring and recruiting,

training and development of all personnel of DLSUMC. Information services also includes the admitting
department, billing, customer services for accommodating patient concerns, medical records inquiries for
maintaining all the patient records, and health education. Lastly, the people who are involved in the hospital
administration (infrastructure) are the people who will generally run the hospital. They are the doctors, nurses,
and hospital staffs that are responsible to accommodate patients in emergency rooms, admitting section,
outpatient services, and payment for hospital rooms.
