Dear Scholarship Committee:

My name is Logan Ericson, and I am applying for this scholarship. I am currently a senior at
York High School. Upon graduating, I plan to attend college and eventually obtain a degree in
Early Childhood Education.

The qualifications and virtues I have acquired make me an exquisite candidate to receive this
scholarship. While being involved in numerous extracurricular activities such as speech,
volleyball, select choirs, and many others, I have been able to obtain a GPA of 4.0, a class rank of
32, and an ACT composite score of 24. In addition to my academic excellence, I have logged
many hours of experience at both York Elementary School’s afterschool program and in a
paraprofessional position during my work-study program. Being given this opportunity has
allowed me to be more certain about becoming a teacher in the future. I will be graduating with
a total of 19 college credit hours from Peru State College and Southeast Community College.
These experiences have set me on the correct path to pursue a career in my desired field.

I am applying for this scholarship because I know just how important it is to graduate college
with as little debt as possible. Although I will receive some financial help from my parents each
year, I will have the majority of it to take care of myself. I also have an older sister who will be
graduating from college this May, so they will have all of her student loan debt on their
shoulders as well. I plan to attend either the University of Nebraska at Omaha or Missouri State
University for four years to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Along with
the cost of attendance and housing, I will also have the responsibility of covering the cost of my
books and supplies.

I believe that this career is the proper fit for me because not only do I have a great passion for
children, but I also understand the importance of providing a safe and welcoming environment
for them to have while learning. I know that not every child has the same home life that I was
blessed with growing up, but it is my goal to make my classroom feel as homey as possible so
that each child can have the opportunity to have a safe place to call their home.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to review and consider my application for this
scholarship, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Logan Ericson
