Test
Part 1.
Which of the following vocab words can be associated with Holden? Why? (Use no
more than a sentence each.)
Part 2.
Choose TWO scenes/passages in the novel that are worthy of close reading (through
analysis, Socratic seminar, oral presentation, or annotation).
Give a BRIEF summary of each scene and then explain your choice, noting why the
scene/passage is significant (theme, language, character revelation, turning point,
crisis, style, etc). You might also include some questions you would use if you were
leading a discussion of the scene/passage; you might parse the
language/punctuation/tone/symbols/etc to reveal deeper clues to its meaning and
import.
Each scene choice should be no less than ¾ of a page and no more than two pages.
