Stunts are activities on the form of play that test one’s self on flexibility, agility, balance,
coordination, strength and endurance.

Stunts can also be activities that serve as conditioning exercises and can also be
inductions to some gymnastics skills and tumbling skills.

Formation in Teaching Stunts


The circle formation is considered the best formation for teaching stunts because of the
following:
1. All the students can see the demonstration of the teacher.
2. The teacher is close to the student in case spotting is needed.

Types of Stunts
1. Individual stunts – are stunts performed by only one person.
2. Dual stunts – stunts performed by two.
3. Group stunts – stunts performed by 3 or more persons.
4. Combative stunts- stunts where two performers or more fight each other showing
strength, balance, agility, and endurance.

Unit 4: Floor Skills

The skills presented in this unit are used to create routines on the floor exercise. The
skills can be held position or it can be used to connect movements. Almost all the skills
on the floor can also be done on the balance beam.

Values of Floor Exercise


1. Improves Grace, form and control of body parts.
2. Improve coordination and rhythmical flowing movements.
3. Increase ability for self-expression.
4. Enhances creativity by creating movement combinations or new body positions.

Safety Precautions
1. Warm – up before attempting to perform a new skill.
2. Have full concentration.
3. Work with a partner or in small group.
4. Listen to teacher’s instructions.
5. Stop performing as soon as you hear the signal or instructions to stop.
How to create Routine on the floor Exercises
 For the basic movements in creating routines on the floor, the following are
guides that maybe used to create interesting and enjoyable routines on the floor.
1. Start form easy to difficult movements.
2. Involve all parts of the body as much as possible when performing the skills.
3. Go to all the levels of positions – standing, sitting, lying, kneeling and aerial.
4. Add locomotor movements for change of formations.
5. Change tempo of rhythms – 2/4;3/4;4/4.
6. Use different directions.
