 The 19th (nineteenth) century began on 1 January 1801 (MDCCCI), and ended on 31

December 1900 (MCM). The 19th century was the ninth century of the 2nd millennium.
o The 19th century saw much social change; slavery was abolished, and the First
and Second Industrial Revolutions (which also overlap with the 18th and 20th
centuries, respectively) led to massive urbanisation and much higher levels of
productivity, profit and prosperity. There were simply too many important ideas
during the 19th century to go over all of them so here we will just look over some
of the ones of greatest significance.

 The central government is the supreme power of the country and is responsible for law
enforcement, international recognition and all the governing terms as a whole.
o In a democratic government system, the central government is a type of governing
body of a country that is responsible for the law enforcement, international
recognition and all the governing terms as a whole. It is the supreme power of the
country. The central government of a nation is usually controlled by the elected
federal authorities and various other authorities categorized as the establishment.
The establishment is the elite authority class consisting of different policy-making
wings that are responsible for the power and authority in a nation.

 Local government is a type of governing body of a country’s specific state or province

that is responsible for the law enforcement, national representation and all the governing
terms of that particular state or province.
o Alcaldia (fully dominated) – led by the alcalde mayor and assisted by a provincial
council.
o Corregimiento (complicated military zone)- headed by corregidores

 When upon his return to the Philippines in July. 3, 1892, Rizal organized the La Liga
Filipina, this constituted a forward step in the reformist ideas of the times in the sense
that the new group sought to involve the people directly in the reform movement.

 As Rizal envisioned it, the league was to be a sort of mutual aid and self-help society
dispensing scholarship funds and legal aid, loaning capital and setting up cooperatives.
These were innocent, even naive objectives that could hardly alleviate the social ills of
those times, but the Spanish authorities were so alarmed that they arrested Rizal on July
6, 1892, a scant four days after the Liga was organized.

 Andres Bonifacio was also a member of La Liga Filipina, although he soon lost hope in
gaining reforms though peaceful means. This feeling was especially heightened when
Jose Rizal was exiled to Dapitan. Bonifacio became convinced that the only way the
Philippines could gain independence was through a revolution.
 Bonifacio then founded the “Katastaasang Kagalanggalangang Katipuanan ng mga
Anak ng Bayan” (KKK) on July 7, 1892 in a house on Azcarraga street (now Claro M.
Recto), in Tondo Manila.
