ACTIVITY 3: REFLECTIVE LEARNING:

According to this theory, human societies tend to grow toward higher differentiation,
with institutions becoming increasingly specialized in the duties they perform. This
makes a lot of sense in cultures where commercialization and professionalization are
still in their early stages.

Individuals are prone to change their behavior in response to the social situation in
which they find themselves, according to the notion of social influences. Social effects
can have an impact on many different aspects of a person's life. They can change the
way a person thinks or the attitudes a person holds based on a desire either to
conform with the predominant social group or to assert distinction from it. Because
social influences can alter a person’s thinking and beliefs, they can also impact the
actions or patterns of behavior that the person adopts.
It plays a significant role in family and interpersonal interactions Interactions with a
word or event alter your understanding of it. For example, if you have a great
relationship with your wife, the word wife will be positive.

ACTIVITY: I SAY!

Functionalism is a consensus viewpoint in which society is based on common ideals

and standards that individuals are socialized into. For functionalists, society is viewed
as a network of social institutions like as the economy, religion, and the family, all of
which serve as socialization mechanisms. One of the functionalist theory's strengths is
that it is a macro level structural theory that employs an organic analogy—using the
body to represent the many aspects of society. Parsons notices three parallels:
System, System Needs, and Functions. The System being organisms such as the human
body, and society which fit together in fixed ways.

weakness

It fails to address major societal developments.

Does not recognize the social disparities in power.

Not everyone agrees with societal order and stability, such as minorities, and thus
order and stability does not work for everyone.

Some societal problems are seen as functional.

It does not suggest strategies for dealing with rapid change, but instead focuses on
reform.
