MODULE 4
CHECKPOINT ACTIVITY 5:

1. It would be erroneous, if not pretentious, to assume that a contest winner is a better artist
than a non-winner...It is indisputable that there are many outstanding writers who have never
won any literary prize.

Winning an award does come with requirements, and that will never change. The committee
had noticed these extra qualities, but most people never see them. When and only when the
people have the ability to decide what better literature is available, maybe the world's
unheralded great writers ever had the opportunity to be nominated for an award. The
opportunities a writer has will always be at the fingertips of readers who cherish and appreciate
their work, not just those of unqualified and rejected people. If this practice can be altered in this
manner, perhaps exceptional writers will also have the opportunity to participate in prestigious
literary awards.

2. The writer, as it were, competes with himself, not with others. Winning finally settles for him
questions about writing as a serious engagement.

I completely agree with this notion that a writer competes with oneself, and victory justifies
learning more about writing so that he can produce his works to be better than what he has
done before. The depth of a writer's connection to his works is clear. As I always think about my
work and how to improve my writing, I can be an instance to other people. In general, I read
literary works of different sorts, such as novels, essays, poems, and so on. All of my previous
literary works are locked away in my laptop, and whenever I read them, I feel queasy and
second-guess myself as to whether or not I actually wrote them. When I thought about that, I
realized I had only improved slightly in my methods of writing, and I have never resented writing
any of my past projects. Although, in that respect, I feel I have learned something throughout
the years I've been trying to write and I intend to grow much further in the long term. Even if I'm
still a redshirt freshman and I'm not yet engaged in a competitive field, like literary competitions,
I'll use social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, to share my work. My works jumped to the
top of the charts using one of badges. Throughout that moment, I thought to myself, "I've
conquered the badge this specific badge is associated with, and my work is among the best." I
won't settle for a numeral thing just for the sake of time limited stardom. My challenge was to
start engaging and make a connection with this myself. That is how serious my commitment and
relationship is, and I will never let anything come in between.
