MAIN COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course is a general English course with an academic flavour that will help our students cross the
bridge from General English to being able to use English in a more specialized academic context. The
course aims to engage our students’ interests and increase their motivation for learning by offering
them stimulating topics with a syllabus that includes comprehensive work on grammar, vocabulary,
pronunciation and the four skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing through communicative
language teaching and learning approach.

This non-modular course covers A2-B1-B2 of the CEFR levels with a series of Pre-intermediate (CEFR:
A2-B1, GSE: 32-47) – Intermediate (CEFR: A2+- B1+, GSE: 43-52) – Upper-Intermediate (CEFR: B1+ -
B2+, GSE: 55-72) skills-integrated course books.

Students who
 have internal motivation;
 effectively select and use learning strategies;
 have or develop learner autonomy;
 regularly attend classes;
 make use of monolingual and bilingual dictionaries;
 extend their learning outside class by reading books, watching films, listening to music,
following media in English
are more likely to benefit from this course, whereas those who fail to do some or all of these would
only improve their foreign language skills to the extent of the effort they make as the program is
non-modular.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
After successful completion of this course, the students are expected to be able to follow and
understand the content classes which are delivered in the medium of English.

COURSE STRUCTURE:
 Thirteen class hours per week will be allotted to the course book, which will be taught by
several teaching partners.
 At the end of each unit, there will be revision-extension classes related to the grammar
content.
 At the end of each unit, students will be required to do the unit’s language practice on the
online component (Learning management System Assignments).
EVALUATION OF COURSE BOOK CONTENT:

As it is a four-skill-integrated course, the content of the main course class is assessed through a
number of assessment tools which are specifically targeted at testing the grammar, vocabulary, and
functional English in the main course book.

 Grammar, Vocabulary, and Functional Language (Key Language) content of course book
classes will be included in various parts of Use of English exams.
 Students will receive one online task (Oxford Online Practice) score at the end of each term.
Online task scores will be added to the yearly scoring system.
 One project will be assigned each term in the form of audio & video recordings or live talks to
allow students to make use of the language forms and functions they have learned in
meaningful, enjoyable and motivating contexts. The written forms of the assignments will be
sent to the teacher. The scores will be added to the yearly scoring system. Students get a
grade out of 100 for each project.

 Use of English of the Monthly Exams 20%

 Coursebook Project Assignments 10% (This 10% also includes homework/presentations for
other classes)

 Learning Management System Assignments 10%
