Search for two classroom teaching activities for English in the elementary level for each

macro skill. Accomplish the worksheet table below for each skill. The description must include
an explanation of how each classroom activity conforms with the principles of language arts
teaching we had discussed for the term.

A. Listening

Name Secret Message Level 6 Topic Compound Sentences

Instructions:
Make two teams and have each stand in a line (parallel with each other).  Take two students
from the front of each line outside the classroom and whisper a sentence to them (e.g.
“Tonight it is going to rain and tomorrow it is going to be sunny”).  Then the students come
back and whisper the sentence to the next student, who in turn whispers it to the next, and so
on down the line.  The student at the end either writes the correct sentence on the board or
says the sentence to the teacher (depending on the level of the class).  Points are awarded: 2
points for a perfect sentence, 1 point for nearly perfect and a bonus point if the team finished
first and got the sentence right.  Then do it again with two new students.

Description:
This activity will not just enhance the concentration and focus of the students but will
definitely develop and/or enhance their listening skills. Upon doing the activity, it is a must
that they should listen attentively to the sentence so that they could pass it to the other
members of the group and for them to get the correct sentence.

Name Listen and Draw a Story! Level 6 Topic Elements of Short


Stories

Instructions:
The teacher reads or makes up a story and as the students listen, they draw the different
scenes.  The teacher can help them by explaining which scene to draw.  This can be done
individually or in small groups on larger paper.  This really helps you to see if the students
are understanding and they will often ask questions if they don’t understand (because they’ll
be so keen to draw the picture!)
Description:
This activity becomes more interesting and engaging because the students will be able to use
their drawing skills as well. For the students be able to fully draw all the significant details
of the story, they have to be a keen listener. As the student listen attentively to the story,
they will be able to widen their imagination using every details—may it be big or small
ones.

B. Speaking

Instruction:
The teacher will create two versions of a story and will remove different information from
each story. For example, one version of the story might be missing character names and
locations (proper nouns) while the other version omits adjectives and adverbs.
Students will be divided into pairs and distribute a different version to each student. They
must work together to complete the story they’ve been given based on the different
information each student provides. To do this, students must ask questions to discover the
missing information that their teammate has. Ask the students to write in the missing
information.

Description:
Information gap activities serve many purposes such as solving a problem or collecting
information.  Also, each partner plays an important role because the task cannot be
completed if the partners do not provide the information the others need. These activities are
effective because everybody has the opportunity to talk extensively in the target language.

Name Explain Your Side! Level 6 Topic Point of Views

Instructions:
Each student will be given a piece of paper with “agree” written on one side  and
“disagree” on the other side. Read aloud a controversial statement, and have each
student hold up their paper showing the “agree” or “disagree” side depending on
their opinion. Choose one student from each side to explain their position and
participate in a short debate.

Description:
This activity will not just enhance the students` critical thinking skills when it comes into
determining their stand with the controversial statements but as well as their speaking
abilities. This activity will make the students practice their speaking skills in the front of the
class, and along with this, their confidence in speaking will also be enhanced.

C. Reading

Name Spot the Wrong Spellings! Level 6 Topic Spelling

Instructions:
Identify the misspelled words and re-write the same paragraph with the correct spellings of
the words.

Description:
In this activity, the students will enhance their ability to be sharp and keen observers. At the
same time, the students will also develop and/or their way of writing in English, making it
more accurate.

Stories

Instructions:
After reading the short story The Last Leaf, the activity will begin with one of you rolling a
die or dice. The number you roll corresponds to the list of questions on each story element.
For example, the student rolls a “3” which corresponds to a question on Setting, such as
Where and when did this story take place? The student then answers in as much as detail as
possible with reference to the text.

Description:
In this activity, the students will be able to understand the story better. Since the students
will not know which element of a short story they will be asked, they will not risk to miss a
single detail of the story—the students will be eager to understand the story well.

D. Writing

Name Chain Stories Level 6 Topic Short Story

Instructions:
A story prompt will be flashed in the PowerPoint. You will be given two minutes to use the
writing prompt to start your writing. After completing this part of the task, you will pass
your piece of paper to the student next to you. You will then continue the story where the
previous student left off for a given number of words or paragraphs, or length of time.

Tell the story of a scar, whether a


physical or emotional one.
Description:
This activity will enhance both the thinking and writing abilities of the students. They will
have to widen their imagination for them to be able to write amazing statements for a short
story. If all the students do this, they will be able to craft a story together.

Instructions:
The pictures that will be shown in the PowerPoint presentation will serve as your prompt.
You will choose one picture and will write a short essay about it.

Description:
Writing essays helps students develop important abilities and functions for their education.
Through this activity, it allows students to practice and improve abilities that they can apply
throughout their academic careers and into their careers. The students are also able to
practice and enhance their writing skills through writing their own experiences relating to
the prompts provided.

E. Viewing

Name Watch and Reflect! Level 6 Topic Short Story


Instructions:
The story of The Magic Pot will be played to the class. After watching the video
presentation, the students will identify the main idea of the story and then write a reflection
paper about the story.

Description:
In this activity, writing a reflection paper, gives the students the chance think about what
they are doing more deeply and to learn from their experience. They have the opportunity to
discover how what they are taught in class helps them with your real-world or academic
tasks. Writing their thoughts down makes it easier for them to think about them and make
connections between what students are thinking, what they are being taught and what they
are doing.

Name True of False! Level 6 Topic Short Story

Instructions:
A video will be presented to the class about the story of The Golden Bread. While the video
is playing, the students must listen and watch attentively. Once the video is done playing,
the students will be given a task wherein they will be given series of statements about the
story of The Golden Bread and they have to determine whether the statement is TRUE or
FALSE.

Description:
Activities like True or False, are best for testing basic information, but they can also be used
to test higher-order thinking. This kind of activity encourage the students to be mindful and
keen observers about every details of a story or topic so they can determine whether they are
being provided with a false information. Also, this activity is simple and quick to label.
