The speaker introduces themselves and thanks those who allowed them to give the speech. They state that their topic is "Uniting Indonesians in a pandemic environment". They explain that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted Indonesia greatly with over 4 million cases and 130 thousand deaths. The government imposed lockdowns for over a year to reduce cases. Research shows loneliness and distress have increased due to lockdowns. The speaker suggests safe ways to socialize like online meetings and following health protocols if meeting in person, as well as contributing to efforts to help others through donations or volunteering.

First of all, I would like to thank God for allowing me to
get the chance for bringing my speech. I would also say thank you to my family, every English Speech team, my friends, and my teachers.
As we all know, we are currently in a pandemic
situation. Which is called the COVID-19 pandemic. This pandemic started in Indonesia on March 2nd, 2020. COVID-19 is a virus that will infect human respiratory system. This virus spreads primarily through close contact and droplets from infected person coughs.
According to WHO, Indonesia has more than 4 million
confirmed COVID-19 cases, and more than 130 thousand people have been diseased.
Because the way COVID-19 transmits to other people
is by close contact, many governments all around the world having a lockdown on their country, to reduce COVID cases for over a year, including Indonesia. Indonesia has had many types of lockdown, from lockdown, PSBB, and the one that we are still having now is PPKM. Research from PubMed Central and Harvard said that since the pandemic started, loneliness has increased and emotional distress is getting worse. Due to the lockdown that we’re having for months.
We can reduce these statistics by socializing with
people even when the pandemic is still around. But how? Is it going to be safe if we want to meet someone directly? Can I meet my friend online?
Well, these questions will lead us to my topic, which is
called “Uniting Indonesians in a pandemic environment.”
What I mean by “uniting” here is what can we do if we
want to socialize in this pandemic situation and yet we can also ‘unite’ together to defeat covid-19.
The safest way to socialize is by having online
conferences or calls. We can use our social media account to let everyone be aware of the virus and fake news which is spreading rapidly.
The next question is what if we’re bored of doing
online calls and want to meet people directly? Of course we can meet other people directly, but we have to be very careful and follow health protocol such as:
1. it’s best to go to an outdoor spot and only with a
few people. If it’s in a crowded place, It’s best for us to just stay at home, 2. We have to wear a mask, 3. sanitize and wash our hands frequently, 4. be aware of how close we are to others, 5. and don’t share our foods and drinks with others.
If we want to contribute for helping the country
minimizing covid cases, we can do some donation or be a volunteer. In these ways, we can find people who have the same purpose as us which is “helping people going through this pandemic” and we can also make a new friend with other volunteers.
Although socializing by face-to-face is great, but during
this pandemic via online is easier to do and safer than offline.
Remember that each of us has a role to play, don't
prioritize our own interests because we won’t move forward if we only mind ourselves and not others. We have to step up and scaling up for the good of humanity.
Finally, I would like to quote Indonesia's Father of
Nation, Bung Hatta. He once said, “The rise and fall of this country depend on this nation itself. The more unity and concern fade, Indonesia is just a name and a picture of a series of islands on the map.”
