RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research Design

This research intends to evaluate the assessment of nursing leadership competencies of

students in Isabela State University College of Nursing, quantitative research is utilizes in this

study to gather and break down the information taken. The researchers also utilized a

descriptive-correlational design that reviews accumulates information about differing subjects.

This information will help to know the degree and various conditions can be gotten among these

subject.

According to Coghan, D (2014), Quantitative Research allows the researchers to conduct

a simple statistical analyses for the data, this method are logical, statistical and unbiased data

collection, also the way toward gathering and breaking down mathematical information. It may

be utilized to discover patterns and averages make prediction, test causal connections, and sum

up results to more extensive populaces.

Aliaga, and Gunderson (2002), portrays quantitative examination strategies as clarifying

of an issue or wander through social occasion information in the mathematical structure and

dissecting with the guide of numerical techniques; specifically insights.

Local of the Study

The investigation was conducted at the College of Nursing at Isabela State University Main

Campus. The University is located along the high way of Pan-Philippine Highway Echague,

Isabela. The said College of Nursing was established in 2009.

Respondents of the Study

The respondent of the study consisted of the BSN students under Isabela State

University-Echague, Isabela. The researchers chose them because they want to know and assess

their competency in the leadership nursing and to determine what areas they need to develop and

improve more. The researchers also believe that these respondents will be honest and truthful

upon answering the questionnaires.

The study population included 397 students in their first, second, third and fourth years.

Using the Slovin’s formula with a confidence level of 95% with a margin of error at 5%,the

computed sample size is 199 respondents.

The researchers will utilize non-probability sampling method inspecting strategies.

Nonprobability sampling portrays any technique for gathering survey data which doesn't use a

full probability sampling design. Purposive sampling as critical, particular, or abstract

inspecting, a type of non-probability sampling in which researchers depend on their own

judgment while picking individuals from the populace to take an interest in their examination.

Data Gathering Instrument

In gathering the data, the following tools will be use:

Online Questionnaire. The online questionnaire will be given using Google form and will

consist of two parts: the respondent's profile and the respondents' degree of leadership ability.

The respondent's profile is composed of names (optional), age, gender, year, and section of the

respondents. In this study, the Clinical Leadership Competency Tool will be used to assess the

respondents' degree of leadership competency. NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement,

Coventry House, University of Warwick Campus, Coventry, publishes it on behalf of the NHS

Leadership Academy. This survey instrument was used in conjunction with the information it
covered. This self-assessment tool is intended to assist the respondents in analyzing and

managing their own learning and development by allowing them to reflect on the aspects of the

leadership framework they wish to develop further. The self-assessment test covered five

categories of leadership competencies: showing personal traits, interacting with people,

managing services, enhancing services, and setting direction. The respondents will rate and

answer the questions using the 4-Likert scale, which ranges from always to never. The

researchers will organize an online survey questionnaire to be answered by the students of

College of Nursing in the educational institution School Year 2021-2022.

The levels of scale are as follows:

N(1) = Never

S(2) = Sometimes

O(3) = Often

A(4) = Always

This instrument is convenient and it is not time-consuming since it had only 40 items of

questions about the respondent’s leadership competency.
