Checklist for chief engineer and engineer on duty with unmanned engine room at sea and in port.

The watch runs from 8.00 until next day at 08.00.

The engineer on duty changes the switch on the panel “Engineer on duty”/ICS-system in the
control room to the position of the relieving engineer in his presence so that the relief knows that
he has taken over the watch. Simultaneously a thorough briefing to be given regarding the
condition of engine room plant, special orders, etc. Checklist for “Change of duty Engineer” to be
filled in and signed.

The engineer, who has taken over the watch, makes a thorough inspection and check of engine,
boiler and steering gear room, and of all machinery in accordance with this list. The check’s starts
at 08.00 o’clock, and the same check to be repeated in the afternoon so that the engineer on duty
leaves the engine room at the same time as the other engineers, provided the machinery is in
normal condition.

The same inspection to be carried out on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays.

CHECKING ALSO MEANS: ALL POSSIBLE DEFECTS MUST BE REPAIRED AT ONCE.


SERIOUS DEFECTS MUST BE REPORTED TO THE CHIEF ENGINEER IMMEDIATELY.

CHECK FOR LEAKAGES ALL OVER!!!

Following to be checked/carried out:

H-deck level:

1. Lift machinery
Oil level, wire, brake, control panel.

G-deck level:

1. Air condition room.


Hi-press central, heating bridge, air temperatures,
Humidity, valves etc. + SWBD

2. Hydraulic pump for mast/funnel, check oil level.

F-deck/funnel:

1. Fire dampers, control air tank for fire dampers and air tank for typhoon.
Pressure, drain for water. Open/close valves is done by weekly control.
Access to air tanks from G-deck level.

E-deck level:

1. Damper / by-pass for exhaust gas boiler, and actuator for do.

2. Exhaust gas system for main engine and aux- engines.

D-deck level:

1. Top of exhaust gas boiler.


Water level, blow of glasses, safety valves,
Level transmitter, leakage.
Exhaust gas boiler exhaust gas outlet temp.

2. Exhaust gas boiler and by-pass damper control box.


Boiler water level controller.

3. Exhaust fan for working tables in ER.

C-deck level:

1. Expansion tank for F.W. cooling systems.


Water level, refill if necessary, leakage.

2. Exhaust gas boiler pressure, leakage, diff. press, ME exhaust backpressure. (Check
for leakages)

3. Main engine t/c air intake filters. (Not while Main Engine is running).

B-deck level:

1. Oil fired boiler top. Leakage, safety valves, water level transmitter.

2. Expansion tank for reefer F.W. cooling system.


Water level, refill if necessary, leakage.

3. Exhaust fan for separator room.

A-deck level:

1. Oil fired boiler middle.


Water level, blow of glasses, leakage, soot blower, water level transmitter.

2. Air condition room


Hi-press central, steam heating accommodation, air temperatures, humidity, valves
etc. + SWBD’S.

3. Outdoor/Engine room diff. press, atmosphere press., ME air intake filter diff.
pressure. (Check for leakages)

4. Emergency exit door closed.

Upper deck level:

1. Oil fired boiler control panel.

2. Oil fired boiler lower floor.


Burner unit include controller and draught fan. Oil pressure and temperatures,
steam pressure, air pressure for scoot blower + water trap for do., feed water
control valve for oil fired boiler.

3. Exit door to upper deck closed.

4. Chemical dosing plant for boiler chemicals.

5. Exhaust gas boiler feed water control valve.

Machinery Room

1. Drink and wash water heater include circulation pump.

2. Central heating plant for accommodation.

3. Emergency escape to upper deck closed.

with hydr. oil., CJC filters. Control panels.

7. Storage tank for steering gear hydr. oil.

8. Bilge well’s fwd and aft. PS/SB in steering gear room.

9. Supply fan to steering gear room.
