General Objectives:
Course Given the varied learning materials and activities of this course, the students will
Learning be able to:
Outcomes: 1. establish relationships between chemistry concepts and real life situations;
2. analyze problems and organize concepts;
3. formulate credible explanations for their observations;
4. relate chemical problems to their lives so that they will be better able to
appreciate the significance of such problems
5. acquaint themselves with scientific methods so that they will be able to
distinguish between science and technology

Specific:
General chemistry teaches on the basic foundations of Chemistry.
Specifically, it is expected that at the end of the course the students are
able to:
1. Understand the importance of studying chemistry;
2. Learn measurement and simple mathematical operations;
3. Classify, define and give example on the classification of matter and
energy,
4. Know and visualize the structure of an atom,
5. Predict and explain periodic variations in properties of the elements in
the periodic table,
6. Write formulas and names of inorganic compounds,
7. Write Lewis dot-structure in forming chemical bonds,
8. Write and balance simple chemical equations and determine their
types of chemical reactions,
9. Differentiate properties and enumerate different uses of acids and bases
and;
10. Discuss properties, enumerate applications of gases and calculate simple
problems on gas laws.

Course 1. Develop an appreciation for chemistry as an open-learning experience

Value that will continue throughout their lives
Aims: 1. Show honesty, precision and accuracy in scientific data reporting
2. Develop awareness of the risks and advantages of things around us
3. Raise consciousness on conservation and recycling of the different
materials
4. Appreciate the application of chemistry to everyday living and as a
concerned individual caring for the environment.
