Premises: Social Movement addresses the Social Issues of the Society as a Whole

Need to Debunk: Social Movement address only the selected social issues of the society

INTRO
To start with, let me define first what is a social movement and Social issue. Social movement
are large, often informal groupings of people who come together against power holders around a
common cause. It is the response of the people to the situations of perceived inequality, oppression
and /or unmet social, political, economic or cultural demands. And social issue is a problem that affects
many people within a society or, it is a group of problems in present-day society and ones that many
people strive to solve. Social movement creates a social change. Addressing a social issue as a whole
advocates not only a minor change by a radical change in the society that we live in.

BODY
Social movements are purposeful especially to normal people. These are organized groups
striving to work toward a common goal. These groups might be attempting to create change, or to
provide political voice to the people. The question is, how does social movement addresses the social
issue as a whole? It is very simple, there must be someone that needs to stand out for the people,
wherein this will serve as the ember to a wood and will become a big fire later on. It is because people
want to know if there will be someone that will be in their side once they stand out for the issue that
they are fighting for.
To make it more clear, let me give an example. EDSA People power revolution is one of
successful social movement in the country where it involves over two million Filipino Civilians, as well as
several political and military groups and religious group led by Cardinal Jaime Sin, the Archbishop of
Manila along with other Religious group. With the unity of the Filipino people, they successfully
achieved their goal and that is to remove Ferdinand Marcos from Power that take two decades as
President and make Corazon Aquino as President of the Philippines of the 5 th Republic. Because the
Filipino people believed that Aquino win the snap election presidency. And more importantly, the
People Power Revolution was ignited because the people want to regain democracy that have been
remove to every one of them.
Yes I know that social movement address selected social issue, but because of this it will trigger
more issues. Just what I have said before, it will serve as the ember that will later on become a fire.
Because the people need someone to be in their side and will lead a group of people that also fighting
for something.

CONCLUSION
Therefore, Social movement addresses social issue as whole……..
