1.

How would you promote dancing to the community as a form of physical activity that
improves fitness and health?
Dancing is one of the first things that comes to mind when we’re bored or
when our favorite music is playing. Dancing is beneficial to our fitness and health
in addition to being fun/entertaining. That is why, it is extremely important for all
of us to promote dancing so that we may share and spread its benefits to
everyone, especially in today’s era when the deadly disease COVID-19 is
spreading globally. In this time of crisis, however, it is quite impossible to
promote dancing in our community since the government has enacted a rule
prohibiting any social gatherings or events. But there is a famous Filipino phrase
that goes “kapag gusto maraming paraan, kapag ayaw maraming dahilan,” it
means that we can still do something if we are willing to spread to our fellow
citizen about the importance of dance to our health and well-being.
For me, I can promote dancing in our community through social media
platforms. I can easily post this since everyone use gadgets these days. I’ll also
ask for help from my famous and influential friends in social media to make it
easier to spread the benefits of dancing. We’ll show one or two popular dances,
then explain the significance of it, as it helps us to be both physically fit and
healthy. We can also perform Zumba since people are not permitted to go to the
gym or dance classes. In fact, Zumba is engaging and can be done even while
they are at home. We might seek support from barangay officials to allow us to
have Zumba session in our community. My friend and I will perform it outside
their residences while they are inside their respective houses to ensure
everyone’s safety. To be honest, given our current situation, spreading
awareness is easy but expecting people to act on it is a different story.

2. How will you promote patriotism and nationalism to the “millennial” through the
performance of the Philippine folk dances?

Philippine folk dances are one of the trademarks of Filipino people,

symbolizing their true identity as well as the culture of every region of the
country. Filipino folk dances incorporate influences from conquerors while also
remaining true to its Filipino roots. According to Zuazu (2021), “Folk dances is an
art created by the people and reflects their life. They usually performed it on
gatherings or social functions.” Philippine folk dancing is a true representation of
daily life in earlier centuries, and it has served as a source of cultural
identification for the people, as well as a means of preserving cultural unity and
keeping the culture alive. Furthermore, according to Nery et al (2019), “in this
diversified country, there is a wide diversity of dances in various forms and
dynamics that emerge from distinct times, situations, and experiences.” They
also emphasized that folk dances, from the well-known national dance, the
Tinikling, which honors the movement of a much-loved bird, to dances that
represent facets of daily Philippine life, provide insight into the country’s history.

As a citizen of this country, I will encourage millennials to promote

patriotism and nationalism by introducing and persuading them of the beauty and
uniqueness of Philippines folk dances. Posting videos on social media is a great
way of promoting folk dances. I will also give a brief explanation, focusing on the
dances’ history and movements, as well as the songs’ beautiful meaning, in order
to pique their interest to the point where they can’t stop watching it.
