IV. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

IT is short for Information Technology and is pronounced as separate letters. Information technology is the broad
subject concerned with all aspects of managing and processing information, especially within a large
organization or company. IT is generally not used in reference to personal or home computing and networking.

IT is More than Computers and Networks. While IT is often used to describe computers and computer networks,
it actually includes all layers of all systems within an organization — from the physical hardware to the operating
systems, applications, databases, storage, servers and more. Telecommunication technologies, including
Internet and business phones are also part of an organization's IT infrastructure.

This lab will help you become familiar with the IT profession.

VI. LABORATORY ACTIVITY
Answer the following questions:

1. Why did you take IT as your course in college?

I love computers, I have been overly fond of technology since we had a pc. Eventually I got
into gaming, ever since then I have been fascinated on how games work and down the line, I
began to wonder how computers work, or how programs work. I took courses similar to I.T.
due to the curiosity that I have pondered ever since. The course can give me a specific
mindset and specific answers to the ones I’ve questioned for a long time. Now that I am on my
second semester, I have only scratched the surface and shall begin to question more.
Hopefully throughout this semester those question will have been already answered.

2. What is your “Dream Job”?

My dream job is game development. Without video games I would have even thought of
programming it has made me pursue my dreams way back when. Video games hold a special
place in my heart and hopefully by doing so I can apply that same passion into the courses I
have enrolled to. Video games have made me a better thinker and problem solver by focusing
at the task at hand I can accomplish my missions. With that in mind I can hopefully have that
dream job.

3. How do you see yourself ten years from now?

There are three possibilities for me that I can think of. One being the practical is working at
a conglomerate supporting my family. The other working also at conglomerate, but more
specifically the ones I take interest in like Google, Microsoft, Ubisoft etc. The last is doing what
I can hopefully achieve and that is to make video games. Aside from the jobs related sense ten
years from now I see myself happy, contempt, financially stable and still working hard.
