1. What is a project?

A project is a temporary effort to create value through unique services which shows results. A great project has a
great quality to offer, and to be able to achieve that quality, a product must be given time, cost, and scope.

2. What is project management?

In project management, it is where specific set of skills, knowledge, tools, and techniques are used to be able to
deliver effectivity and value to people. It is also where software development is used as a measure to improve a
specific business process.

3. What are the different project management knowledge areas? Define each one.

Project Integration Management – It is where fundamental planning is integrated to develop a project charter
that is created during the initiation phase. Also, this is the document that sets up project and assigns who the project
manager will be.
Project Scope Management – it is where a detailed requirement for the final product or service is collected and a
graphical breakdown of project work is also part of this area.
Project Time Management – this area involves plan schedule management which most of the time creating
schedules for projects and determining who is appointed for what are being done in this area.
Project Cost Management – this area revolves in project budget, which means having great estimating tools to
ensure funds cover the extent of the project and are being monitored regularly to keep stakeholders and sponsors
informed.
Project Quality Management – this area involves quality assurance, which is a way to ensure that quality standards
are being met. And in relation to that, to control quality, deliverables should be inspected to ensure standards
outlined in the quality management plan are being met.
Project Human Resource Management – A human resource management plan identifies the roles of the team
and the requirements for the said position, as well as how they fit in the overall project structure.
Project Communication Management – it is at this point where the dissemination of communications is
determined, including how it is done and with what frequency. Communication is a critical step in any project.
Project Risk Management – this area will identify how the risks will be itemized, categorized, and prioritized, as
well as identifying risks that may occur during the execution of the project by making a risk register.
Project Procurement Management – this area deals with outside procurement, which is also part of most projects
(ex. Hiring subcontractors). This area starts by identifying the outside needs of the project and how those contractors
will be involved.
Project Stakeholder Management – in this area, identification of stakeholders is done through stakeholder analysis
which is not easy but is crucial in starting a project. Listing of each stakeholder and prioritizing what their concerns
are and how they might impact project is also part of the stakeholder management plan.

4. What are the roles of a project manager?

The main roles and responsibilities of being a project manager is to conduct activity and resource planning,
organizes and motivates a project team, controls time management, estimating the cost and develops a budget,
ensure customer satisfaction, analyze and manage project risks, monitors the project progress, and lastly the most
crucial part, manages reports and other necessary documentations.
5. Why do projects fail?

Project failure is unavoidable, but controllable. Projects tend to fail when one of the 10 project management
knowledge areas are not properly executed or practiced. The lack of communication from team leaders and project
members and poor leadership are just some of the most common reasons to why projects lead to failure.
Occasionally, failed projects get prescriptions for immediate fixes that usually prove to be ineffective and lead to
disastrous side effects. In most cases, common approaches and powerful interventions fail because they are
inappropriately applied.
