DISCUSS THE ENVIRONMENTAL LAWS OF THE PH

Environmental and natural resources laws are implemented to protect and address the effects of human
activity on the natural environment.

1. PRESIDENTIAL DECREE 1586 ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT (EIS) STATEMENT OF 1978 


HISTORY: was ratified on June 11, 1978
HOW IT STARTED:
HOW ITS GOING RIGHT NOW: predicting and evaluating impacts of a project on the environment
(land, water, air, flora, fauna and people) at various stages (construction, commissioning,
operation and abandonment) of the project development.
OBJECTIVE, PURPOSE, RELEVANCE: to attain and maintain a rational and orderly balance
between socio-economic growth and environmental protection.

assessment to avoid destruction of environment

2. REPUBLIC ACT 6969 TOXIC SUBSTANCES, HAZARDOUS AND NUCLEAR WASTE CONTROL ACT OF
1990
HISTORY: The Philippines started its chemical regulation in the 1990s with the Republic Act
6969
HOW IT STARTED:
HOW ITS GOING RIGHT NOW:
OBJECTIVE, PURPOSE, RELEVANCE: to monitor importation of chemical substances that present
unreasonable risk to health and environment
-when a doctor throw a toxic or hazardous waste like syringe or the one that they inject to us. It
can be hazardous to us that’s why we have a law like this

3. REPUBLIC ACT 8749 PHILIPPINE CLEAN AIR ACT OF 1999


HISTORY: The passage of RA 8749 on June 23, 1999, provides for a comprehensive air pollution
control policy, as it outlines the government’s measures to reduce air pollution by including
environmental protection activities into its development plans
HOW IT STARTED:
HOW ITS GOING RIGHT NOW:
OBJECTIVE, PURPOSE, RELEVANCE: to achieve and maintain healthy air for all Filipinos.
- example is when we are using cigarette, or when we are burning garbage, we have this law to
avoid doing that act and its for our own benefit

4. REPUBLIC ACT 9003 ECOLOGICAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT ACT OF 2000


HISTORY: was passed by ph congress on dec. 20, 2000 and was subsequently approved by the
office of the president on January 26, 2001
HOW IT STARTED:
HOW ITS GOING RIGHT NOW: diba right now we are doing waste segregation (like we are
separating non/recyclable garbage), recycling program
IMPORTANCE, OBJECTIVE, PURPOSE, RELEVANCE: to adopt a systematic, comprehensive, and
ecological solid waste management program and to ensure the protection of public health and
environment
- for example, instead of throwing away your bottle of soda, you are recycling and turning it to a
flower vase

5. REPUBLIC ACT 9275 PHILIPPINE CLEAN WATER ACT OF 2004

HOW ITS GOING RIGHT NOW:
IMPORTANCE AND OBJECTIVE: to protect the country's water bodies from pollution from land-
based sources
- that’s the common problem that our environment is facing. So to help our environment we
should do something like dispose toxic chemicals properly, use environmentally household
product, and practice judicious water management

6. REPUBLIC ACT 9512 ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS AND EDUCATION ACT OF 2008


HISTORY: started on 2008
HOW IT STARTED:
HOW ITS GOING RIGHT NOW:
OBJECTIVE, PURPOSE, RELEVANCE: to promote environmental awareness through
environmental education and for other purposes.
- its example is like a subject like this, nstp, instructors are introducing to us, students, the
environmental stages and awareness. But we should introduce also to young students a basic
environmental awareness so they are open minded on what to do to protect their surroundings.
