UCSP ACTIVITY No _: ORIENTATIONS IN VIEWING OTHER CULTURES

NAME RANOLA, JEANELLA B. DATE SEPTEMBER 24, 2021

INSTRUCTION:
Paste pictures of Filipinos viewing other culture in the manner of:

1. ETHNOCENTRISM
Ethnocentrism means firmly
having the belief that one's
own culture is superior to
others. Thus, for example,
when you invalidate the
religious faith of Muslims
regarding their way of
wearing clothes, it is clearly
depicted as being
ethnocentric. You judge them
because they are different
from you; you make your
culture a standard for all
people.
2. XENOCENTRISM
Xenocentrism is having a
strong belief that the culture
of others is condescending
from your own culture. For
example, since global
products and international
music or movies are popular
in the Philippines, we tend to
support them rather than
local. We get fond of their
unique culture, music genres,
characteristics, and quality.

3. CULTURAL RELATIVISM

Cultural relativism means not

passing judgment on people
or cultures based on your
own standards, values, and
beliefs. A good illustration of
this is a class with a Bisaya
student and other students
from comparable cultural
backgrounds. However, they
did not convey anything that
can be constructed as being
insensitive and degrading to
them. Instead, they treat
their Bisaya classmate
wonderfully.
