Answer the following questions:

a) Draw a simple diagram of the well and label the following details in your diagram:

i. Length dimensions (e.g. shoe depths) [2 marks]

ii. Diameter dimensions (e.g. OD) [2 marks]

iii. Zones that will be occupied by drilling fluids and cements after the casing operation
has ended. [2 marks]

[Note: You are advised to finish question part (a) before attempting the calculation questions
below.]

b) What is the capacity of the annulus space between open hole and casing? [2 marks]

c) What is the capacity of the annulus space between 13 3/8” casing and 20” casing?
[2 marks]

d) What is the capacity of the 13 3/8” casing? [2 marks]

e) What is the capacity of the hole? [2 marks]

f) What is the total slurry volume required? [3 marks]

g) How many sack of cement will be needed? [1 mark]

h) What is the volume of mixwater will be needed? [1 mark]

i) What is the volume of mud will be required to displace the cement? Explain how you
derive your answer. [3 marks]

[Note: For part (b) – (i), you must explain your workings as detailed as possible. e.g. relate to
the diagram you have drawn]
