Personal Statement

I am pursuing this internship to learn more about geriatric patients and use the skills and

knowledge I have gained in my health studies, leadership, and psychology courses to guide me

throughout this experience. More specifically, I wanted to pursue a clinical experience to truly

determine if a similar setting would be fitting for my future career.

Learning goals

1. As of the beginning of this week, my new top strength is Harmony. A learning goal I have

related to this signature strength would be to work with each of the departments within

the nursing centre to give the residents the best care/experience possible. These

departments consist of nursing/CNAs, dietary, maintenance, etc. Learning how we can

all work together will be helpful in any career I choose to pursue. This also ties into my
5th value of teamwork. I am always looking for a way to work with others to improve

upon all aspects of a job in the most efficient and effective manner possible.

2. Another goal of mine is to strengthen my 3rd value of fairness to give each resident an

equal opportunity to join in at activities. Although it is challenging for some residents to

attend due to physical limitations, it is important for me to make sure that I tell a CNA

what time they need to be ready for me to provide the help they need to get there.

3. While I am doing my internship in the activities department of this facility, I am also

hoping to gain knowledge in some of the other departments, such as rehabilitation and

nursing. I have already shadowed an Occupational therapist and have learned a lot

about residents' diets through serving in the dining room. I want to continue learning

from the other departments, which also correlates to my new 5th strength, learner. I

believe that this experience will help me strengthen this because every day I attend work

I learn something new.
